Justice is blind, they say. Justice is blind. Ever since his hatching, Ylios's eyes have been pale and devoid of elemental magic, the color of new-skimmed milk. Not a transparent silver-blue like the snows of the Icefield, nor a creamy pale yellow of morning sunlight- an opaque and sightless white. It used to bother him, the way other dragons choked on their breath when he turned his autumn-chilly face towards them.The sour deadness of fallen leaves, all red and brown and orange, the bitter nip of the wind as the shortest night of the year begins- these are the things that Ylios carries with him in his greatcoat and his stony face and his eyes like the marble.

It does not bother him now- nothing truly does. For Ylios was born for the hunting of foul and hidden things, and if you cannot see the face of the thing you hunt- well then, it is all the better. He cannot be tricked and he cannot be bargained with, for he is nothing but a weapon. A weapon, a wolf, the winter wind crying on the mountains. A hunter. This is all Ylios is. This is all he will ever be. He has known it since the first time he opened his marble eyes to the cold and stinging sky.
