"Another anomaly to document? Well, things are never boring around here." Length: Standard Wings: Standard Weight: Standard Knowledge-Seeker Nautica had originally travelled to the Plaguelands because she found it interesting. The concept of an entire landscape that lived- no, thrived- off of that which would kill anything it touched was too compelling a mystery to deny. Her original clan was a tight-knit, often needlessly paranoid group, dead set against outsiders. Thus, her depature was an essential exile. At the time, Nautica didn't care, though later on she would find herself lonely for those familiar faces, warm times playing in the sand just outside of their caves. Upon reaching the Scarred Wasteland, she was quickly adopted by a smallish clan of dragons, an interesting mix of kind healers and antagonistic killers. Over the course of her time amongst them, she had something like an affair with a Pearlcatcher named Gargoyle. The result was a single son, promptly named Nex. Having studied enough to sate her interests and desperately missing the deserts she once called home, Nautica left shortly after his hatching. Later on, Nautica would strike a deal with a wandering Lightning Lancer-- she gave it all of her magical energy in exchange for knowledge. She can't so much as twitch a piece of parchment anymore, but has performed feats of engineering that put Stormcatcher's most talented workers to shame. --- Nautica is a surprisingly caring dragon. She places great value on life and refuses to harm any living creature that hasn't harmed her first. However, if something is already deceased, she has no qualms about taking it in for observation and dissection. This no-kill attitude is a fairly recent development, arguably a side effect of her deal with the Lightning Lancer. When she actually lived with the other group, she didn't particularly mind some of their grisly ways, though she never took part herself. Nautica is also the first dragon to live in Spinehome proper. She found evidence of its existence in a library whilst visiting Light Flight, and over the course of several years managed to track it down. She used it as a sort of personal headquarters for a few years, studying the mysterious contraptions and research notes within, usually only emerging to go barter for food with a near-ish clan (which was still nearly fifty miles away). When Verena, Lachlan, and a number of hatchlings seeking shelter turned up on her doorstep, Nautica was more or less happy to let them in. She is now a well-known and rather integral clan member, though she has no place in the clan's governing and for the most part just carries on with her research. She hates DERG, despite never being a victim herself, and often helps the fighters plan out raids and strategies to free more subjects from their laboratories. She thinks they're a crime against science. Since she left the Scarred Wasteland, she has returned once to see how her son was doing. She dislikes what he's become but recognizes that she can't do anything about it. |
