 He was born and bred for combat, but a serious physical disability prevented Marduk from ever joining the ranks of the Cleaver Phalanx. Enraged, Tzarina ordered him sent to the homeland his mother was kidnapped from, and a replacement child brought back (Laine).

Verena and Lachlan were devastated by the loss of two of their daughters, but the little Nocturne was nothing if not a grandchild, and the distraught parents took it upon themselves to raise him as one of their own.

He reminds Verena of Skadi, a Nocturne she had adopted in the earliest days of the clan. It hurts her heart, but she can't help but love him in turn. Other clan members have noticed the ex-matriarch softening slightly since Marduk was delivered to them, though she is still brutally protective if anything threatens her family. 		Cleaver
