"Now now, don't chew on the book - let me read it to you!" Blip appears calm and content - solid as a rock, a firm (if gemstudded) shoulder to cry on - but when she came to the island of Prufrock, she was not happy with her life. Two mates had left her, and all of her children had gone to serve the gods. The latter particularly hit her hard, as the maternal snapper loves hatchlings and can't quite figure out why all of her own left her. Perhaps she smothered them too much. To fill the hole in her life, she chose to work with the hatchlings of other dragons. Though Emrys was initially reluctant to allow rambunctious hatchlings into the library, Blip persuaded him to set up a room just for them where they could play and she could read to them and educate them. When he later visited and watched her with the hatchlings, he realized she was right and is now a frequent visitor who can often be seen playing and cuddling with the clan's youngest members. She met the churlish Winterhain when she ventured to the reference section after one of the hatchlings had asked her a question she didn't know the answer to. Though gruff, the pearlcatcher meticulously helped her find the answer, and after some prying, he eventually opened up about his personal life. They bonded over their shared background of broken families and resolved that they would do everything they could to make a happy family for themselves this time around. As a symbol of their resolve, they had a visiting jeweler make them matching lapis lazuli jewelry. Out of a nest of five eggs, only one hatchling, Blain, decided to remain on the island of Prufrock with his parents. Though she wishes the others would have stayed, Blip is delighted to finally have a son who allows her to coddle him (even if he only allows it because he is too ill to object). |
