Biography
(previously tundra)
(currently participating in: _______ )
"Why...under Glademother's great leaves...would you eat those berries?! Even the dullest tundra knows they're deadly-poisonous..." A stonewash-colored mirror demanded, glaring down at the ice-white tundra suspiciously. "Well...so I thought...though you seem to have proved me wrong about that."
"Hush, Alexios...he's just come to...give him some time." A mulberry-pelted tundra female admonished.
"Yeah, about that...we had to go to Gladekeeper herself just to save his sorry --"
"Alexios! She knows all plants. She knew the antidote."
"He's not even Nature element!"
"And that matters because..."
"Gladekeeper has better things to do than--"
"Glademother nurtures all who come peacefully into her domain, you know that."
There was a groan from the ice-and-violet tundra as he tried to sit up. His stomach protested and emptied itself onto the mirror's paws, prompting a disgusted protest from the blue dragon.
"Lie back down...you're not strong enough yet." soothed the purple tundra.
"Still...he should know not to eat berries from THAT bush." The mirror grumbled, trying to recover some of his damaged pride.
"I-it...was only two..." The white tundra finally spoke, wincing at how weak and wavering hs usually devine voice sounded.
"Which is probably the ONLY reason you're still ALIVE, you fool!"
"Alexios! You're not helping." The mulbery female admonished. "Back off."
"Yes, Matriarch Amethyst." The blue mirror grumbled and stalked off a short distance before flopping down with his back to the two tundras, a hint of bitterness in his voice. His long ears were still perked however, as he couldn't quite pretend to not be interested in this strange tundra who seemed to lack knowledge of safe-to-eat vegitation. How had he even survived to adulthood?
The white tundra had finally gained back enough strength to sit up, though he remained woozy and refused the salad of SAFE vegitation the female offered him.
"Don't mind him. He's just moody because I decided to break off our relationship."
"I can still hear you, you know. Don't tell me you're flirting with this new guy..." Under his breath, the mirror added, "The way he's going, he'll end up eating something else poisonous before long. I wouldn't get too attached if I were you...Also, we still have a son, or did you forget?"
The female chose to ignore the mirror, and turned back to her convalescing guest, "I'm Amethyst...that's Alexios, my bodyguard. So...what's your name?"
"It...it doesn't matter. The old me is dead, as is my name. Just call me Nightshade."
Alexios snorted. "You're named after the plant that almost killed you?!"
"...Now I am, yes." He stood up, unsteadily, and spread his wings. "I...I really should be going now. I wish you luck with your growing clan."
In a flash, the mirror was suddenly pinning him to the ground. "You're not going anywhere! You show up passed out at the entrance to our lair, make us bother Gladekeeper to save your life, and then just up and try to leave? You ungratefull little...!"
Amethyst simply glared at Alexios. It was enough to make the mirror back down. By now the commotion was enough to draw the attention of the rest of the clan, including the grown son of Amethyst and Alexios, an irridescent Royal-and-Blue turndra named Arrix. With a huff, Alexios returned to the spot he had recently vacated, still glaring suspiciously at the ice-colored tundra.
Nightshade cast an almost...hunted...glance around the dappled greenery surrounding the group of dragons. "I really should go. You're not safe anywhere around me. ...HE could come back..."
Alexios gave a derisive snort. "I told you this guy was trouble..."
Amethyst ignored the mirror. "He? He who?" she prompted softly.
Nightshade sighed, and settled back down. He was still too disoriented to fly anyway. "I should have known better. He smelled funny from the start...or rather...he didn't smell. Like friend or otherwise. But I took -him- as a friend. I was stupid."
Alexios snorted. "There's a big surprise..."
Amethyst continued to ignore the blue dragon's sarcastic quips, listening intently as the rest of the clan gathered as well.
Nightshade continued. "I am a bard. Which is probably not surprising, considering I am originally from Wind flight. However, I'm not a successful bard. I met -him- one dark night, after an unsuccessful attempt to perform. All the dragons of the clan I was living with at the time tended to fall asleep when I sang. -He- promised to make it so they would pay attention and I would be famous...but he said the clan's leader was suspicious of -him-...all I had to do was slip a handful of berries into the leader's food, and it would make him 'sleep' supposedly long enough that -he- could work -his- magic and make me famous...It sort of worked...it made me IMfamous instead. The clan leader was later found dead, and my 'friend' had stolen his soul, and the souls of the dragons that came to my performance. I was mortified. -He- then revealed himself to be none other than THE Shade. The berries that I had slipped to the clan leader were none other than the same berries I tried to end my life with just now. I was a mur...mu...." the white tundra broke off the story, sobbing. "They weren't my birth clan, but...I didn't want to kill anybody! I didn't want them to loose their souls! I just wanted to perform...to be appreciated!"
He staggered to his feet. "I was not pursued...because my clan had lost the will do do anything...but I knew what I had done...I tried to face the Shade...but it tried to envelop me as well...I had to flee. I have been running ever since. Any time I came to a clan I thought I could hide in...it found me...and destroyed the clan I was trying to hide in, absorbing their souls. So that's why I found that bush...tried to end it...and that's why I must leave you...before the Shade finds me and destroys you. I may have doomed you already. I'm sorry." Nightshade spread his wings.
"I can't allow you to leave." Alexios pounced on Nightshade's tail.
"For once, I agree with Alexios...to an extent." Amethyst added. "We have both had to fight to survive..." She glanced briefly at a large scar on her hind leg. "the Shade is also responsible -though indirectly- for the loss of our own families. It's time we stood up to it."
******
Nightshade stayed with the small clan, and hesitantly learned to fight the myriad small Shade-controled creatures that come after them. He also learned to become a healer, in order to make amends for the damage he had done in the past...He began research into ways of freeing stolen souls from the Shade, but so far hasn't found a cure. He wears a talonclasp pendant enchanted to mask his location from the Shade. It is unclear as to whether or not it works, but so far, the Shade has not fully found him or his new clan.
He and Amethyst have become mates, and have had several children.
