Biography
Perdix
His head slowly dips into the water, and slowly rises out again with a mouthful of kelp. His mane drips, and he gracefully shakes it out. He is cool. He is calm. He is collected. He places the water plants in his basket and hobbles back towards the herb storage.
Perdix has spent his entire life as Xenthosia’s apprentice healer. He has never known a day not spent gathering herbs, brewing a tonic, or crushing a poultice. He knows nothing but medicines and herbs, and he is happy with this life. He hopes to be exactly like his mentor one day, surrounding himself with the bittersharp smell of pungent leaves and earthy roots.
In his birth clan, when he first hatched, it was hoped that he would join his parentage as one of a long line of oracles. But this didn’t happen, because Perdix cannot hear the voice of the Tidelord. He couldn’t even hear it when the Tidelord was still actively whispering. He was shunned for this, and the Clan of the Striking Bolt welcomed him despite the deafening silence in his ears.
Perdix quickly fell for his mentor’s daughter, Mournewind, who he had known since the clan first welcomed him. They make for an inseparable pair, and are almost always either found in the herb den crushing leaves into poultices together, or wandering in the wilderness to gather more herbs. Whenever the pointed scent of herbs is in the air, you know Perdix and Mournewind are approaching with their tailed intertwined.
The funny thing is, now that the Tidelord is silent, the same oracles who had once shunned him have now come to him for advice in coping with the silence. And Perdix has found a tiny piece of joy in turning their words from the past against them.
