Biography

Seraph
Caretaker
Male | Homosexual | Theme

"Everyone thought I was a monster. I started to believe them. That was the scary part."

The prophecy that doomed Seraph wasn’t even worded properly. He found that was what bothered him the most. The prophet used grammatically incorrect phrasing to talk about how he and his sister’s birth would bring the entire clan to ruin. He didn’t hear the first version of the prophecy, but it was relayed enough times for him to know how it went. The twins would be born, one would be evil, one would be good. He knew it was nonsense, but he never spoke out about it. Not until he knew what he had to do.

Seraph grew into a healthy young dragon, and he overheard clanmates chatting about how he and his sister needed to die. He overheard the prophecy time and again, and he overheard how one twin would act out, and that would be the evil one. To spare his beloved sister’s life, Seraph decided the evil one would be him. He went bad. He bit, he scratched, he pranked, and he sneered. He was the vision of evil. And one day, they took Rhea away. When the guards returned to the cell he and his sister had once called home, everything changed.

Seraph doesn’t like to talk about the years that followed. The guards were purely abusive. They tried every known tactic to hurt Seraph. They starved and beat him, they let his wings freeze up in the frigid temperature. They wrapped chains around them that rubbed them raw. Seraph lost strength more and more with every passing day. He barely noticed when Rhea came by to greet him, to offer him a bit of her food. He fell into his mind, where he found it was much safer than Terranov’s idea of punishment for a crime Seraph would never commit.

One of the guards was a guardian dragon, ironically. A massive beast named Ketch. He was the clan’s executioner, and he was set to kill Seraph if this method of torturing and breaking him failed to prove he was incapable of destroying his birth clan. But he also inflicted the most pain on the young mirror. Seraph was sure he was sadistic and enjoyed hurting him, but Ketch would deny that and claim it was all part of the job. Seraph avoided more pain by choosing not to argue and letting Ketch think as he pleased.

He was having a nightmare one afternoon, and he opened his eyes to see a black mass. Before it registered as Rhea, he’d already scrambled away and landed on his wing, breaking it right then and there. Seraph barely had time to feel the pain before Rhea returned, slung him over her back, and bolted off into the night. By the time they arrived in the Virdian Labyrinth, Seraph was exhausted and hurting. He was happy though, in a way. He was free.

The scars would never go away. Nor would the trauma. He has nightmares even now, and the sight of Rhea brings back awful memories. His wing never healed quite right, and the chains had grafted themselves to his scales. It doesn’t hurt anymore, but it’s still a reminder. Seraph spends most of his time helping other packmates. He’s happy his sister found a place she can be the natural born leader she is, and he loves the pack dearly. What he can’t bring himself to tell Rhea is that even though it’s hard for him to see her, he loves her so much. And he would go through all of it again if it meant protecting her.
