Biography

Gladion
Second in Command
Male | Bisexual | Theme

"Being numb is worse than feeling pain. At least when you feel pain you know you can feel joy."

The Southern Icefield is known well for producing brutes. Gladion was without a doubt one of those brutes. From the day he was born, he was raised to be a soldier. His birth clan was one that did not fear their talons getting bloody. Being a savage and a killer was predisposed in his mirror blood, and it was reinforced by his clanmates. Gladion didn’t mind it. It was almost like he was born for this life. He was raised from a pup and trained to fight and hunt. He was a natural. He was skilled with weapons of any shape and size, and he even learned some basic magic.

Time went on, and Gladion remained a fantastic soldier. He stayed in line, his demeanor was very serious, and he never got emotionally invested in anything he did. It was just a job. He wasn’t happy with his life, but he wasn’t prostrate with grief either. Each day was just a thing that went by, and Gladion was entirely neutral about it. It was truly like he had no personality at all. As he climbed his way through the ranks and became a general, other clanmates grew more and more intimidated by him and the orders he gave.

Then something happened. Gladion grew old. He was no longer as strong and as fast and as young as he once was. He was a formidable opponent, no doubt, but he’d lost that young spark that came with hunting and fighting. He was by no means incapable of doing these things, but a young imperial in the clan, far larger than Gladion, challenged him for his position. When he inevitably lost, the young imperial saw to it that Gladion was exiled. No one knew why. They assumed the younger dragon was only jealous, or spiteful that such an old, small dragon had stood his ground and stood it well against him.

Whatever the reason, Gladion was on his own. For the first time in his life, he had no cause to fight for and only himself to be concerned with. The mirror was understandably lost. He hunted, he slept, and he survived. But there was so much free time, and Gladion was not one to sit idly around with no productivity. So he decided to go to the mainland, where he began to travel. He saw many things, but he never found anything worthwhile to keep him in one place. No matter the journeys he took, his life was still just about survival.

After weeks and weeks of travel, the mirror came to the Virdian Labyrinth. He stopped by the market to pick up a new sword and possibly some exotic food, but nothing about that trip to the market was ordinary. He was paying with a few of his extra coins when he heard a cry. He spun on heel, always alert. He saw a small scarred mirror with night-colored scales, surrounded by three larger dragons, all armed. From the little dragon’s terrified expression to the sneers and mocking from the dragons around him, Gladion saw this fight was entirely one-sided.

The warrior considered tucking his new sword and trotting away, but he recalled his own unfair fight. And he didn’t want to let someone else go through the same thing. Gladion set aside his doubt about how well he would fare, and he gathered all of the strength in his body. He pounced on the largest of the three, sinking his fangs into the back of his neck. Despite eventually wounding them enough to scare them off, Gladion took quite a lot of damage, and he collapsed, unable to get up. He expected to just be left to die, as he would have been in his home clan.

Instead, Seraph dragged Gladion back to the den he and his sister were calling home, and they made Gladion the very first official member of their pack. They healed him and introduced themselves. And when Gladion accepted their invitation to join, he was finally shown love. It was alien to him, but he slowly learned to return it. He slowly learned that emotion was better than nothing, and he learned that with family, he had something to live for. He was a brave and daring warrior from the very beginning, and he would give his life in a heartbeat to protect his pack.
