The Stone Golem

Petrus was made by a talented statue maker. The craftsman made wonderful works of stone, using almost any material. If given the time, and proper payment, he could craft just about anything from the earth. The statue maker had a family. A lovely wife and two children. The wife was also a craftsman, a famed blacksmith. They were the envy and admiration for most upcoming artists in their fields. That was how it was for a long time. The craftsman would make masterpieces from stone, and his wife made make useful and beautiful tools he could use. The problem came from all the attention. Since they were so known for their work, people always came to ask for things. The craftsmen were always paid, but it became hard to be with their children, and that made the household a little unstable. To make sure it was fixed, the couple took breaks from working. It became harder and harder to get original work from them. That's what angered a certain client you shouldn't ever cross.

He was a dangerous dragon, and he didn't even fully use their items that much. But for whatever reason, he desired a statue. He wanted one like none other the statue maker had ever made, details so fine most didn't even bother. He wanted it even made from a stone that was known for being almost impossible to work with. The statue maker didn't complain or even decline his offer. All he told him is he'd been taking a break from working. The dangerous dragon was fine with it, at first. The statue maker was able to be with his family, ignoring work for a while. His family was thriving well because of this, his wife still working through. When he went back to work, he had forgotten the request. This angered the dragon, so slowly he chose to make the statue maker's life hell. It started with his eldest daughter being around more dangerous dragons and ended with his youngest son losing his leg. Soon it was clear he'd been under the thumb of his dragon. When the statue maker confronted him, he was beaten by the dragon's men.

The statue maker had enough. He had never been so angry in his life as he got to work on the statue for the dragon. Each hit of his hammer sent rage into the stone's core. What no one knew about in this time, was how the stone used was made. It wasn't just some run of the mill rock found in the sea of a thousand currents. This stone was made when dragon bones sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The bones would be pressed, and sometimes fossilized. Then they slowly made their way to the hotter parts of the ocean and melted. When they resurfaced the stone formed was harder than most, and a pure, white. Unknown to finders of the stone, they even called it a Soul Stone. So as the craftsman made a statue using this stone, the lingering fragments of a soul inside the stone reacted. The parts of souls of dragons lost to the sea clung to that hatred and used it to become one soul.

When the statue was finished and left to cool outside, it opened its closed eyes. The statue slowly awoke, moving from its perch. Since it was the carving of what a Gaoler was thought to be, that was the form it held. Its fur seemed to be marbled stone, all the hatred it absorbed turning it grey. It turned its many eyes to the craftsman's house. Since it only knew it's creator's rage, it attacked any living thing. The creator woke to find the statue he made covered in blood. The beast stood over his son, the dragon dead. Before the creator could do anymore but scream in shock and hatred, the statue finished him too. The stone golem, made by hatred and anger, didn't stop there. It rampaged through the village, straight to the dangerous dragon who commissioned it. Unknowingly, it did what its creator only swore about under his breath. The statue left no survivors in the dragon's home, making sure he suffered for making his creator suffer. Then it sat down and returned to its original form.

It was a long time before the statue moved again, the angry spirit waking up because of dragons invading in its domain. They were Gaolers, just like it was. The difference was they were made of flesh and bone, and formed from love and compassion. Those things alone made the statue angry. It moved, opening its many eyes once more. Before it could attack any of the dragons though, it laid eyes on Ruby. She was a tired looking Gaoler, who seemed annoyed and mad. She was speaking grumpily to another dragon and stormed off. The statue, who never felt anything but rage before, suddenly felt something else. It wasn't sure how to feel, suddenly pacing in place. The statue froze as it heard loud pawsteps approaching its room, many eyes widening. The statue returned to it's more stone look but left its pure blue eyes open to watch. Ruby stormed into the room, huffing angrily. She kicked a rock around, mumbling to herself. The statue was entranced. It had no clue why, but it couldn't stop watching her. For some reason, her very presence calmed down his constantly angry soul.

Ruby angerily glanced over at the statue, and stalked over. The statue felt another dragon emotion, and felt like fainting from her gaze. She studied it, her anger disappating. She sighed, and started to talk to the statue. She spoke of how she was sick of moving and running. She grumbled about not wanting to have to find a job, but seeming to have no choice. The statue listened, unable to do anything else. When she finished, she lowered her head, and started to cry. The statue moved without even thinking, and suddenly hugged her. Ruby screamed loudly, hitting the statue in panic. The statue blinked, tilting its head. That's how they met. Ever since Ruby has been around the statue, she named Petrus. Petrus has learned a lot, and even goes by He/Him now. He mildly enjoys the concept of gender, but mostly chose it since aparently thats what he was mildly crved to look like. Petrus does his very best to make Ruby happy. Be it picking a ton of flowers, doing things for her, or just sleeping with her. Her very presence seemed to calm his soul, and he never ever wants to be who he was again. All he wants is to be with Ruby, who he loves.
