Biography

Nathanos
9385lxs.png

When the poison claims your very soul
How slowly you waste away
When all you know is woe
Your days are done your doom is near
When the Blight takes you far away
Drowning in pain and burning with fear
Bleeding with fire and flickering with hate
Chains rattle and old bones creak
The monsters awaken from the very deep
They hunger they roar, shaking the chains
Fear the moon,
And fear its wane.

Imagine a plague. A plague that hungers, leeching away your will and soul. Imagine a plague that hungers and consumes, eating away your insides slowly and feeding off your strength until you are nothing but an empty and helpless husk. A plague that makes even the strongest of dragons tremble and a plague that was born straight from the forges of Wyrmwood.
Such a plague is a harsh mockery of Nathanos.

Wherever he walks, the ground retches and screams, churning up the earth in a futile attempt to rid itself of the disease that slithers and curls around Nathanos’ talons. Creaking bones and ghastly moans seem to accompany his very essence, full of pain and torment from the damned souls taken by the Blight. Poison creeps from his claws and limbs, its fateful radiation spelling doom to all those close and near. Tendrils of pure Blight curl around him, twisting and dancing with the Infection. A plague doctor’s mask covers his face, the irony lost on most that see him. Harsh thick garbs cover his form, hiding whatever lurks beneath. His voice is ragged and twisted, long since claimed by the Blight. The sound of rattling bones and rusty instruments accompany Nathanos’ arrival.
Yet he wasn’t always such a hideous monster.
For evil is made, not born.

Once upon a time he was a tiny hatchling, a mutant born on the borders of Wyrmwood and the Tangled Woods. A Child of both elements yet wanted by neither. His parents bounced from Clan to Clan, mocked by their multi-element children.
Much of Nathanos’ early life was of bouncing from home to home with his neglectful parents, who were far too busy with his siblings to care.
Nathanos was far from his parents favourites, and teased relentlessly by his siblings, and this thought festered in his mind like a worm, a parasite.
However, he never knew how far it truly spread until the day they were passing by Wyrmwood.
That day, it offered him a possibility, the instant they were flying close to Wyrmwood.

A way to end all this.
Nathanos never knew what compelled him to do what he did, and Nathanos never bothered finding out.
Without a second thought, he pushed his siblings into Wyrmwood.
Nathanos knew that he would be hunted down for what he had done.
But he refused.
No, he will never give them the satisfaction of watching him be locked up for the rest of his life.
Instead, Nathanos chose the other way out.
He jumped into Wyrmwood.
...
Nathanos didn’t scream.
Why bother screaming when there was no one to hear you and no one who cared?
He expected to die.
Yet he didn’t.
He refused.
And that day…. That night…
Nathanos heard a Voice.
The Voice visited him through his agony, and offered him a deal.
His loyalty in exchange for power.

Of course Nathanos accepted.
And on that fateful moment, he sealed his fate.
There is very little known about what happened next.
There were no survivors to tell the tale.
The tale of how Nathanos rose from Wyrmwood, a twisted phoenix from the pyre.
Grinning like a maniac, laughing like the soulless puppet he was…
The Shade laughed with him, laughing with its new puppet.
Now, wherever he walked, the Blight followed him, spreading tendrils of sickness and death. Now, whenever he moved, death and destruction are promised to follow. His voice is the sound of rattling bones and the screech of the hollow wind. The plagues that follow are parasites and sadistic infections that kill slowly and painfully. Poisons that creeps and crawls circle Nathanos, vultures and scavengers rejoice in his wake, feeding off of his prey before they too, succumb to the Blight. The earth screams and churns beneath his talons, and the winds dodge and waver at the infections.
He is the Reaper, the Plague.
He is the Blight.
