Goat is Aloe's Charge and the one she spends most of her waking hours with. While he doesn't pay attention to her much anymore, she understands that he is sorting through some things after his transformation.

When she isn't making sure her mate doesn't dehydrate and starve himself while he ties hundreds of lilypads to the shoreline, Aloe is the clan apothecary and healer. Lately her duties have been passed onto Marengo, but Aloe has a vast swathe of potion and plant knowledge she has yet to hand down.

"The brightest stars shine in the darkest nights..."

All Arcane eggs are imbued with a certain type of magic that enables it to hover, and more often that not, this ability to levitate causes more trouble than it's worth. For one, because of this ability, Arcane eggs tend to go wherever the wind blows.

This was so for a small Arcane egg. Carried by a gentle breeze, it floated out of its nest, over its sleeping parents, and into the great world beyond. For days it floated aimlessly, until a deciduous brisk gale swept it into the Twisted Wood. Sparkling and glowing with light, the egg tumbled gently down and landed on a large, glowing mushroom.

Had it landed in any other place, it might've been used as a basketball by immature, frisky Shadowlings. Thankfully, the grove of mushrooms that cushioned its descent belonged to a clan versed in the art of medicines and poisons. The dragons there were surprised to see an Arcane egg drop out of the sky like a shooting star, and initially wanted to use the magic in it as and ingredient for a new type of medicine. However, the leader of the clan recognized the egg for what it was and bid his clanmates to raise it.

So the small Guardian that hatched from the egg was introduced to the world of medicine. She was named Aloe by her foster clan, and from them she learned when and where poisons should be used, and which wounds could be treated by what herbs. Unlike her fellow Arcanites, she possessed a more timid and serious personality, and lacked the curiosity the others had. Because of this, she was an easy hatchling to take care of, and she learned her lessons quickly and thoroughly.

But as her egg had gone where the wind had gone, it didn't take long for Aloe to go where her Charge had gone. As she matured, the link between her and her Charge strengthened to a point where she simply could not stop thinking of it. Her foster clan saw her dilemma, and the clan leader told her what she needed to know about a Guardian and its Charge. After hearing his explanation, Aloe decided that she must find her Charge, or be miserable forever.

So the young Guardian packed her bags and said farewell to the clan that had treated her so well, promising to never forget them. Then, with the Twisted Wood Behind her and her Charge before her, she set off into the unknown.

Aloe's Charge was found surprisingly easily, and with few mishaps. Having come straight out of the realm of shadows deterred the majority of robbers from messing with her, and those who do find themselves tangled in poisoned ivy or shoved down pitcher plants. Though Aloe preferred not to resort to violence, she all for it when it comes to testing out her new plant-summoning spells.

Goat, another Arcane Guardian, was Aloe's Charge. He too, was searching for his Charge, but the pull between him and his Charge were not as strong as Aloe's bond had been, so he had lost his way. Only with Aloe's help was he able to somewhat pinpoint the location of his Charge and head to the Starfall Isles.

As Goat's Guardian, Aloe was elated when they came upon a quaint little island formed from one of the spires in the Crystalspine Reach. She thought that he planned on starting a clan that would eventually become his Charge, and she was excited by the prospect. However, to her dismay, he began digging down in a circular loop, and for the love of the Shadowbinder above, she had no idea why.

This proved to be quite a great deal of work for Aloe, as Goat, bent on digging down, rarely came up for food, or even air. It was up to Aloe to make sure her Charge stayed alive and breathing, and for a while she was so caught up in her worries that she didn't notice the dragons that had, out of curiosity, began camping in the tunnels that Goat dug.

This was the beginning of the Burrow, and an additional job for Aloe. For the dragons that had taken up residence in Goat's tunnels had bonded together as a clan, and they looked up to Aloe and Goat as its founder. Now, not only did she have to check Goat's well being, she had to run a ragtag collection of dragons, the majority of whom were Arcanites prone to blowing everything up.

Overwhelmed and exhausted by her duties, Aloe could barely keep up with Goat's progress. As such, she simply took a nap one day and woke up with a horrible feeling that something bad had happened to her Charge. Her clanmates told her that an earthquake had shuddered through the ground earlier, echoing from the depths of Goat's tunnel. Terrified of what might happen, Aloe rushed down to where Goat may be and was horrified by the rock cocoon that'd sprung up in the small, newly excavated cavern Goat had dug. She knew that Goat was trapped in it, and she sought to release him from its restraints.

When she finally freed Goat, she was shocked by his change in breed. Goat was no longer a Guardian, but a small, deformed Fae. A Snapper was lying where Goat had been imprisoned, and Aloe deduced that the Snapper must've been Goat's Charge. She carried the two up to the surface and used all the healing arts she knew to bring them back to consciousness.

Her hard work paid off, and the two dragons soon came to. Aloe filled Goat in on everything that had been happening since he went underground, and they decided that they would run this clan together. Though neither of them thought themselves suited for leadership, the dragons around them looked up to them, and so they would run it.

And so was the official beginning of the Burrow.

Aloe was originally both clan leader and healer. However, taking care of Goat spent way too much of her time, rendering her unable to carry on with her duties. Thankfully, two of the newcomers, Fading and Physalia have taken over leadership duty since their introduction into the clan, leaving Aloe with more free time to deal with keeping Goat intact. Marengo has also somewhat taken over her role as a healer, though the Spiral remains unable to replicate many of Aloe's healing skills and must ask the Guardian for aid when it comes to more difficult magical injuries. There's still much more about herbs and poisons that Aloe has to pass down to Marengo, but only the Arcanist knows when she'll have the time to.

Aloe is patient and gentle, and has tenacity worth appreciating. When she's not making sure of Goat's well being, she can be found tending to clan-related matters. Fading often consults her on problems he isn't sure how to deal with, and Aloe is more or less the fulcrum of the clan, making sure that everything goes as successfully as possible, with half the expected explosions.

While Aloe takes great care of her Charge, Goat doesn't pay much attention to her. After all, his Charge was different than Aloe's, so he cannot understand the intimate bond between a Guardian and a living Charge. Nevertheless, Aloe continues to remain faithful and devoted to him. She understands that there are things he must piece out after having gone through such a massive transformation. To his credit, Goat has been taking note of her whereabouts now and then. After all, she's his mate, and even if she loves him, there are things she will go to the ends of the earth to bust him for.

Recently, the clan's island has magically floated out of the ground and migrated to Dragonhome, and idea Aloe was first fine with then horrified of, once she realized what disasters might occur now that they're airborne. To be more precise, due to their now-floating island, the river that once crossed the island has become a sky waterfall, which is great and all, until Goat gets onto it with his Fae Armada. Now, to add to the list of things she had to watch out for, Aloe's now concerned about Goat sailing to his death.
