Biography

Glade

The children of the Gladekeeper are healers, they say. If eyes are windows to the soul, and this saying holds true to the draconic race. After all, a dragon's energy manifests itself in their eyes, a powerful reminders of the magic that courses through their veins, and most importantly, their elemental allegiance. The Plaguebringer drew the blood of those who perished in Her wasteland to taint the gazes of her children. The Earthshaker chose the hues of His everlasting mountains for the eyes of his brethren, representing with the unyielding strength of the stone on which He built His kingdom. As for the Gladekeeper's druids, the lush green of their irises were colored by their patron, the color bled from sprigs of olive leaves into their eyes. An everlasting reminder so that the dragons of Nature may serve as augurs of refuge and peace. But not Evergreen.

Who else would defend the verdant lands that he was raised among? The Labyrinth had nearly no need for soldiers, as prowess in battle was not venerated here as it was in other Flights. Those who wished to taint their land with carnage and spilled blood could do so as they pleased, but the dragons of Nature sought only to make peaceful amends to their issues, so as to preserve the life that they so carefully cultivated. This sentiment was shared among the Nature clans, and this was the same wise tale told to Glade many times.

"The only staff you shall raise is the one of healing," the elders told him. It became the mantra that all had attempted to instill in him. But Glade believed that his Clan was careless to leave itself so defenseless. He could not watch his people be decimated by an army of hateful dragons who cared not for treatises or civil discussion. Others saw their sprawling forests teeming with gifts of the Gladekeeper -- flora to be utilized as medicines, or the fertile bounty of food to support every dragonflight. But Glade saw the Keeper's other, more sinister gifts, the ones ignored by his fellow druids. The Gladekeeper had stocked Her jungles with an abundance of poisons. There venomous plants and deadly creatures that could be used to neutralize any threat to Her lands. And so, Glade taught himself by candlelight, sneaking forbidden knowledge by books penned in old, forgotten tongues, of their uses. The way that Nature magic could be used to wield the life around him as a weapon.

Glade went on to become a bounty hunter. He stalked down those who planned to wreak havoc to the Viridian Labyrinth, and they were found by their co-conspirators strangled by thorns or eyes gouged by summoned corvids by the next morning. And so, this continued. A rogue team of Plague dragons planning to bombard the Labyrinth's border Clans with attacks by pestilent weapons were thwarted. Dragons sent by Lightning intelligence centers to infiltrate the inner workings of Nature's political center were found with roots coiled thick around them. The word spread of a mysterious Nature dragon's sudden acts of retribution against those who had plotted against his Flight. After all, he was simply carrying out his duty to protect his fellow druids. Would the other Flights not have done the same? He thought.

But he had been persecuted. Those of the Flights he had wrong sought his capture. Even his own Flight had denounced his name for his breach of their codes of peace. As he continued to be hunted at the turn of every corner, Glade sought refuge in the most unruly and chaotic land he could think of. He had never been to the lands of the Arcane, as their magic was so unpredictable, so unnatural, that he dared not cross them without the proper training. As long as he had not tampered with their people, the Arcane would not care of his previous actions. They were the most politically deviant Flight, so erratic and estranged in their ways that they did not seem to be bothered by the petty conflicts of other dragonflights. Almost in the way that his home was like, yet more out of apathy and self preservation (and also a lack of understanding from the other Flights), instead of a moral opposition to the fighting. He fled from the Labyrinth through Earth territory, another reserved Flight, careful not to edge too close to Plague borders, until he arrived in the Starfall Isles.

This was a strange land, indeed. The air hummed with an energy like no other, chaotic and frantic, eager to be shaped into wild and unimaginable spells. Not the slow, languid current that flowed through Nature zones, waiting to manifest itself in the blossoming of wildflowers or fruits ripened on a tree. It took Glade a long while to adjust, hiding in solitude while his body grew accustomed to the taint of radioactive fallout that lingered in the air. He sickened, using the rare amount of Life magic he had mastered to heal himself. But the Nature magic was harder to call upon so far from home. After many moons, he had gained the strength to move on, moving closer to the epicenter of the Arcane domain. While traversing the Starwood Strand, a landscape that could hardly be classified as a forest biome, yet still slightly reminiscent of home, he met another fellow Nature dragon. Glade had picked up on his energy from afar, sticking out like a sore claw among the powerfully Arcane forces.
