Biography

“Lathyrus!” The ice dragon heard, being disrupted from his work. It was very important that he do this without interruption. With this his clansman could preserve the futures they saw. Crystal was good for seeing, but it just didn't-

“Lathyrus!” Ipheion, his mate, quickly swam into his workshop, nearly knocking over his precious fossils.

“Be careful,” he chided his beloved, tail whipping out to steady the artifacts by reflex. “Be calm and explain.”

She huffed and tried to settle. “I may have greatly upset Greatmother Applecrisp. She was very disappointed.”

“Ah, your pranks again,” he noted, shifting his wings, the clinking of metal pleasant to his ears. He turned his attention back to his experiment. “What did you do?”

“Nothing, but she saw what I was to do.”

Lathyrus glanced at Iphieon, meaning just to make sure she wasn't withholding tears, but instead got distracted by how her scales gleamed under the light of his ice chandelier. “Did you apologize?”

“No,” after a moment she asked. “Should I have?”

Lathyrus said, “Likely.”

Ipheion rose to go do just that, but Lathyrus thrust a crystal at her. “Help me get this just right. Practice your future seeking in this crystal. I will prepare the gemstone orb.” When Iphieon looked like she was going to protest, Lathyrus thrust it closer. “Please,” He added.

Several fleeting visions and two minor emotional disasters later, Iphieon finally said, “I see something. It's holding steady this time.”

Lathyrus pressed the gemstone to the crystal and asked, “What do you see?”

“I see...” Iphieon squinted then dropped the crystal and rushed out.

Startled, Lathyrus followed. Iphieon always finished her thoughts. She must have seen something important, maybe this was the first step to-

He felt himself get tackled and after a small struggle, he found himself pinned by Ipheion. “I win!” She said simply.

Lathyrus snorted and looked up, getting distracted from the problem at hand. The sky was very pretty today.
