Biography

pineguard_text.png

No one who loves the woods stays on the path.

With scales of brown and green, the Pineguard seem to be born of the snowy forest itself. These rangers keep watch over the forests that edge the clan's territory, alert for any danger that might threaten the livelihood of the clan. Many are skilled archers, while others are adept at moving silently among the trees, so expertly hidden that they may watch travelers for some time before approaching them.

Despite their sometimes unnerving appearance, the Pineguard are generally more friendly and gregarious with strangers than most of the clan. They have good relations and frequently trade with the centaur clan that dwells in the neighboring forest, offering dragon-made goods in exchange for materials and ingredients not found in the Icefields. They are also the first to encounter dragons who might be traveling through their lands, and as such are the first public face of the clan. More than once, they have found orphaned hatchlings lost in the snowy woods and brought them back to the main clan for safety.

They know a great many stories and songs, and it does not take much coaxing to get them to share one with a friendly traveler. Many of these are so old that they are not sure who first told them, or whether it really happened that way, but that's never stood in the way of a good story.

Northwood is the Captain of the Pineguard, a coatl who, as far as anyone knows, simply appeared in the forest one Winter Solstice. His knowledge of the forest and its inhabitants is unrivaled, as is his skill with a bow. He brews his own spruce beer and readily shares it with his fellow rangers, and sometimes visitors if he likes them enough.
