"Do not covet that which is easily spent, rather, treasure that which is difficult to obtain."

______ The search brought Hindyn to many places, not unusual for a Guardian, as he sought that which he was destined to protect. It didn't take him long to find what it was: life -- or, at least, that which is unborn or newly brought into the world, defenseless. Hindyn stumbled upon an egg one day in his travels, and instantly felt that sense of belonging and duty he had been waiting for to signify that his search was over and done. He waited by this abandoned egg, keeping it close and caring for the fragile life within; storms tried in vain to move the great dragon, hunger and thirst tried to sway him, but all failed in the face of his life's calling.

______ The day finally came when the egg shifted, and cracked -- small claws working their way out from within. Hindyn twisted his neck down to watch the newborn clamber from its egg; stumbling around his claws blindly, noises of curious confusion making its way to the Guardian's ears as the youngling searched for its mother. He was not this hatchling's kin, but it was his charge all the same, and he loved the small dragon as if it were his own. He cleaned the young one up, picked it up as gently as he could with his large maw, and nestled the newborn between his shoulders. He would hunt for the both of them, as the hatchling was clearly hungry for its first meal, and Hindyn himself had not eaten for a week as he waited for the egg to hatch.

______ But children grow up so fast, and it wasn't long before the hatchling Hindyn had cared for was no longer a hatchling. The young dragon had grown up, and no longer cared to have its protector looming over its shoulder at every turn. Dawn came one day, and Hindyn found himself alone. His charge had left in the night. It was a wound that struck deep, marring his very soul with a pain he could not put a name to. And so, Hindyn wandered again; feeling the pull of his search once more. It took him many years, and many more pains, to discover that his charge was not tied to one or even a few new lives coming into the world, but all that he came across. Whether they were dragons' eggs, birds' nests, rabbit warrens -- it mattered little. New life was his charge, and Hindyn was there to protect what had been abandoned or lost until it could stand on its own.

______ Hindyn is, first and foremost, a caring soul. His purpose in life is to guard that which is young and defenseless, so to harm another creature for any other reason than to survive or defend his charge is rare to the point of nonoccurrence with him. He is warm and gentle with youngsters of all kinds, but he can be wary and taciturn with mature dragons or other creatures -- to the point of coming off as hostile. Hindyn grieves every time one of his charges leaves him to continue their lives, no matter that it has happened numerous times in his life already; he grows severely attached to them when he finds them, and takes them under his wing, so each departure echos the first one he experienced. The death of one of his charges, while they are in his care, brings Hindyn into a ballistic rage; he will level the area in search of whatever took his charge from him, taking his anger out on the things around him until grief overtakes his rage.

______ Hindyn started out his life as a Guardian dragon, but has since changed his form to that of a Coatl. Though his breed has changed, his duty to his charge has not faltered -- though his compulsion to follow it has lessened a bit.
