The First Daughter of House Phaedrin
The first nest yielded two eggs whose shells were embellished with gold leaf by the Phaedrin jewelers, so that the eggs shone as brilliantly as any crown jewel in the palace. Such artistry was only fit for the firstborn children of Queen Karys and the consort-mage Aegaeon, after all. The streets and bazaars of Ra-Harenae were riotous for a week. Fine glasses of finer wine were hurled with frienzied abandon into the oasis waters; shimmering swathes of crimson silk and firefly lanterns were strung among the courtyards; the city lay gripped in sleepless celebration and wild drunkenness.

The bards and poets say that the first daughter of House Phaedrin had eyes that blazed incandescent like molten gold, and scales the same color as bloodied sand. Take this as you will, for all poetry is rooted in truth, and indeed, the Phaedrin daughter’s eyes held a metallic sheen that was rare among earthborn dragons, surely an omen of victory and wealth to come. They called her Parhelion, the light in the dark, the glittering jewel at her mother’s throat.

They draped the daughter in delicate golden chains and citrine jewels, inlaid her scales with gold filigree. They whispered into her ears while she was still young and malleable, the rules of the court, the rules of diplomacy. While she was the first daughter, she was not the first child, and thus had claim to neither throne nor crown, and so she turned her sights and ambitions to the obtainment of opulence and wealth. Parhelion grew into a viciously cutthroat negotiator. Make no mistake, behind those famed gold eyes is the cunning of a cobra, perhaps the one thing that she inherited from her father. They say that her gold eyes and silver tongue are betrayed by an iron will that surfaces during her heated negotiations. Behind closed doors they’ll call her snake, they’ll call her wyrm, but only when those doors are tightly closed.

Perhaps the only thing that will truly sate Parhelion’s appetite for conquest is the gladiatorial games held in the Phaedrin coliseum. Parhelion herself owns a fair amount of gladiators captured in raids, and there are no goods that she will bargain for more fiercely than a particularly skilled fighter.
