Honeysuckle
Hunter & Gatherer |
|
Personality & Relationships
Although having found the place he was so desperately searching for, Honeysuckle is also adventurous and not one to stay within the boundaries of the Forgotten Sanctuary. Together with Amber, he is a hunter and gatherer of supplies for his clan. The two brothers are almost inseparable and care deeply for each other. Honeysuckle also owes a life debt to Fujin, who brought him back from the verge of death after he and his brother had found him. Because he had left his home clan before he was given an name, it was upon his new clan to find one for him. When he had pulled though the worst, they finally decided to name him Honeysuckle for he had been found under a tree almost submerged under blossoming climbing honeysuckle. But even more so, the sweet smell of blooming honeysuckle lingers where ever he goes, so this seemed a fitting choice. |

His parents had forbidden him to go as he was much too young. But he went anyway. At first it was all very exciting. All the new impressions, plants and animals he had never seen before. But then he realised that he did not really know in which direction he should go. So he followed his instincts. He had also no idea how far away the Forgotten Sanctuary was. He was too little to fly, his small wings could not support his chubby body. So he walked on his stubby legs. Soon the undergrowth became thicker and it became increasingly hard to move on. Thorns scratched his body and one day, he encountered a huge hostile and most likely hungry beast. He barely managed to climb on a tree where he waited trembling with fear for hours until it stopped circling beneath him. He did not dare to climb down until the sun was up again. He was hungry but could not find anything to eat. Insects eluded him and the few plants he tried made him choke. There was plenty of water though so he was never thirsty. Unfortunately, the fish in the river eluded him, too. Without food he grew weaker every day. Soon he lost track of time, had it been days or weeks since he had left home. He did not know. But he kept going, it was as if something was calling out to him. One night he was cold and soaking wet from the rain that kept falling down on him. His stomach was grumbling painfully. He had no strength left and tears of frustration welled up his eyes as he realised that his journey was at an end. His legs were trembling from exhaustion and he knew instinctively that he would never get up again if he laid down to rest. But he was so tired. He finally crawled underneath a tree that was overgrown with honeysuckle. The sweet smell soothed him as he slipped away into unconsciousness. “Over here, Amber!” a voice shouted. “I have found him! It does not look good. He is barely alive.” As he opened his eyes he could see gleaming red eyes staring at him. But also a pair of warm green eyes in a strangely familiar face. “Thank the Gladekeeper that we have finally found you little brother. What were you thinking, running off on your own...” “I don't think he can understand you, Amber. He is barely conscious. His life force has almost left him. He will die soon.” the red-eyed Dragon said. “No, please Fujin. Save him. He is my little brother. Look how far he's got. He almost made it on his own. He is strong, he deserves a second chance.” The little Coatl struggled to keep his eyes open. He wanted to see his brother and the huge strange white dragon with this hauntingly red eyes that was with him. They said he had almost made it to the Sanctuary. He felt a sense of pride and smiled. Surprisingly, the huge white dragon whose name was apparently Fujin smiled back at him. Then he turned to his brother. “He is a fighter, that little wet thing. I will do it. But be aware that I have to give from my own life force to rekindle the flame of life in him. We will be bound after that. And he will owe me. This is ancient magic. And ancient magic works in unforeseeable ways. There is always a price to pay.” Fujin now looked directly at him again. “But at least you will have chance. It would be a shame to waste so much heart and courage, wouldn't it?” The little Coatl tried to nod. He wanted to live. He had found his brother but he also desperately wanted to see the Forgotten Sanctuary with his own eyes. Nearly there, the great white dragon had said. He could feel a strange warm sensation in his chest, which spread through his entire body. The heat intensified until it became nearly unbearable, he wanted to scream, to get away but neither his voice nor his body obeyed him....then everything faded to black... Amber gently lifted the motionless body of his little brother up into his arms. He was unconscious but breathing steadily. His body was hot though as if he was running a fever. Maybe he was. There is always a price to pay Fujin had said. He looked at the white Imperial. His eyes were closed and his huge body was shaking violently. Blood was running down his nose and eyes but Amber knew better then to disturb the silence. Finally the shaking stopped. “Let's go home” Fujin said hoarsely. |
