Ovid was born deaf and mute. But he wasn’t the first son born with this condition to his parents. And due their affliction with the Nosos Virus, he wouldn’t be the last either. The Virus runs strong in his family’s bloodline, maybe because they were one of the first to be infected, some are even rumoring they were the very first to bare this dire curse. He was born on the Starfall Isles, so the Virus did not strike him with its full terrible power. But still, he suffers more than most born outside the Scarred Wasteland do. Not only is his hearing and speech impacted, but his muscles also tire easily and his blood does not clot as it should when he gets hurt. Physical activities easily exhaust him to the point where the pain in his muscles and joints becomes unbearable. Consequently, he will never be a warrior like his older brother Banagher. His eyes are very sensitive to bright light, a trait he seems to have inherited from his father and his eyesight isn’t the best either. When he realized that he was different from the other hatchlings in his Clan, that he couldn’t keep up with them when they were playing, he became withdrawn. Sometimes he would sit in a dark corner for hours, staring with eyes unfocused onto the ground. No one could get a reaction from him then and his parents became increasingly worried as the Nosos Virus not only affects the body but also the mind. Not that he is mentally incapacitated, he has a bright mind and learned sign language and also writing very fast. It’s more his state of mind his parents and especially his mother are worried about when he retreats into his own world. His passions are writing poetry and reading, which are professions not highly valued in his family. As tensions rose higher, he would spend more and more time alone far away on the edges of his Clan’s territory. Seeking solitude to avoid confrontations, which he hated, and to write his poetry. But unfortunately, the far corners of his Clan’s territory were no safe place for a frail and solitary hatchling. One day, he was attacked by some marauders from a neighboring Clan who were less than pleased to find a sick creature so near their border. If some hunters hadn’t intervened, they would have killed him. He was rushed back to the healers, but due to his hemophilia, he was closer to death than life for several days. And despite their skills, he will bear the scars of this vicious attack forever.
