Vulcana

JayChirps - Landow

When Vulcana arrives in Landow, Kuru and Qenda are the first to greet her. They were very friendly and were practically joined at the hip the whole time. They gave me an in depth tour of the clan, down to the very last detail. They showed me that the hatchery was almost directly in the center of the clan, as that was where it was quietest and safest. Qenda took her to the mud pit where the hatchlings played during the summer. Kuru walked her around the mountains where each dragon lived; they built into and around the mountain, having melted several different lairs for some of the larger families. After the tour, Kuru and Qenda led her to where she’d be staying for the night.

The next morning, Vulcana finds that most of the dragons are pretty busy preparing room for new arrivals. So, as she watches the bustling dragons, she is approached by Dwella and is given several gifts. She gives the lava scaled dragoness the gift of sunshine and some apparel.

Vulcana made her way hesitantly through the Tangled Wood, unsure of what to think of the dark place. She followed the river into an underground tunnel the river ran through, and stopped as the tunnel opened up into a huge, magical, living cave. There were dragons flying about, houses and shops, waterfalls and huge purple lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The walls had shadow runes glowing from them, and magic was seeping from the place. This cave was called La Vie, and this is where the dragons of Elysian resided.

Dawn, a beautiful Bogsneak, gave Vulcana a tour of the city and introduced her to Seafoam, the Innkeeper. Seafoam gave the Skydancer a place to stay and was a little more enthusiastic than Dawn. She spoke of the upcoming celebration, the Jubilé de Notre Reine. It was the celebration of the clan leaders joining of Elysian.

Vulcana spent five days in Elysian, meeting the dragons and celebrating, as well as going into the heart of the city and buying some new apparel. Felixia had some unique clothing in her shop that really fit with the apparel she had obtained in Landow. She enjoyed conversing with Hanabira, to many dragons surprise, and Hanabira gave the firey Skydancer a golden bracelet to remember her by.

She had a great time at the Jubilé de Notre Reine, which was four days after her arrival. All the dragons in Elysian (with a few exceptions) came to the center of La Vie, danced, sung songs, and toasted long into the night. Vulcana decided to retire to her room after a few hours. She needed to get rest, since she was planning on leaving the next morning.

Vulcana woke up right as La Vie did. She ate a breakfast given to her by Seafoam, then said her goodbyes to the dragons of Elysian. She left the city happy and ready to journey on.

Upon arriving under the cloud cover of overhead storms to the temporary oasis in the desert that is Clan Eunoia, Vulcana was welcomed by one of the clan's scout troops made up of Maritiar, Lucovan, and Healer Chai. Chai was overjoyed with her arrival, and since the clan had been expecting Vulcana's visit, she was given a tour of the territory to get a lay of the land. On her first day she was led through a few of the underground tunnels, the most notable experience having taken place in the clan's athenaeum. It was there when Tori, a dragon notorious for his love of books and lack of charisma, was introduced to Vulcana and promptly turned their meeting into a rambling account of the clan's history. His stories ended with a souvenir: a birdskull necklace which had once signified a dragon with great power or authority in their clan some time ago. While it may no longer hold the same significance, it was an old token of respect Tori wished to grant Vulcana... May it be in welcome or because he felt sheepish for having talked at her for so long, one may never know.

As the days went on, Vulcana eventually met Accismus, a motherly dragon who was delighted to hear about her adventures. After some time however, she couldn't help but notice Vulcana's lack of decoration (apart from the necklace) and set out with her to change that. A dress, some lace, and fitted bronze wing supports later, Vulcana had an entirely new outfit. Accismus was happy to be Vulcana's stylist, even if she made most of the design choices independently.

Towards the end of her visit, Vulcana was finally introduced to the lead of Clan Eunoia. He was a rather young dragon by the name of Adastro, who- to the ever diplomatic Variasol's horror- greeted her with a very forward "Can you fight?"
It was clear that on Vulcana's adventures she'd picked up some combat skills, enough to pleasantly surprise Adastro but not enough to impress the clan's gladiator Moruuest. Upon seeing her supposed sub par performance, she whisked the two dragons off into the wilds to learn a thing or two about combat. What was a punishment for Adastro (as he'd much rather be tinkering) ended up being a valuable lesson for Vulcana, and her skills were bettered under Moruuest's temporary apprenticeship.

At last, it was time for Vulcana's departure which was met with respectful farewells by some, and loud overly-dramatic complaints from others... particularly Chai. The fae dragon which once welcomed the traveling skydancer into their clan was also the one to escort her to their border, and Chai's bubbly nature competed with her emotions as she laughed through tears and hugged Vulcana in goodbye.
Waved off by the lightning clan below, Vulcana ascended with all she'd gained and learned, off to her next great adventure.

The Isle of the Lost - The Temple of Eterna
Vulcana had managed to make her way far enough through the land of the PlagueBringer that she could see the pulsing, oozing, pool of disease that is the Wyrmwound. As she stopped to take in the sight of something so deadly that only the PlagueBringer herself would want to venture near, she heard the sound of dragons behind her. She whirled around and was about to attack when she noticed something peculiar about the two dragons behind her, they appeared to be wearing crudely-made paper masks. One of the dragons was a smaller Mirror female with a Tundra mask, and the other was a large, hulking Imperial with a Fae mask. Vulcana asked who they were, to which the Mirror responded that she was called Epilepsy and the Imperial was called Tricky. She asked what Vulcana was doing so deep in the PlagueMother’s territory, and Vulcana revealed that she was traveling the world, going from clan to clan and seeing all there is to see. Epilepsy then invited her to come join her clan for a few nights, to which Vulcana agreed, and they set off to The Isle of the Lost.

The Isle of the Lost is almost impossible to find unless you encounter a dragon that came from there for it is hidden deep underground in an area of land that had been partially flooded by the Wyrmwound back in the early days of the PlagueBringer’s existence.

Vulcana was shown to one of the dens that weren’t taken yet, and she got settled in for the night, planning to meet the Clan leaders in the morning. When she woke up she got ready and headed out with Epilepsy and the ever silent Tricky to go meet the clan leaders. They arrived in the complete middle of the island, and stepped inside a massive structure that’s was carved out of one of the pulsing, vein like fixtures in the PlagueBringer’s territory that had grown in the shape of a tree. Inside sat a large male Bogsneak dressed as a jester, an enormous male Ridgeback that seemed to have a mutation. and an average sized female Mirror dressed in a torn cloak. Epilepsy introduced the Bogsneak as ThistleRosette, the Ridgeback as Eclipse, and the Mirror as Inferi. The Clan leaders agreed to host her for a few days, and they even allowed her the privilege of viewing their sacred land, where their Temple of Eterna is located.

Epilepsy introduced her to a large Guardian by the name of Nightingale and her mate Morgenstern, a normal sized tundra, who would be showing her around for the rest of her time in the Clan. They where the original progenitors of this Clan, but they never wanted to rule and gladly gave up the Clan to the new Clan leaders. They showed her the breeding dens and the nursery, the classrooms and the battle training fields before dark. As soon as the sun set, not that they could tell save for the way the festering pools of disease surrounding them turned a darker shade of the nauseating yellow-green mixture that it was, they let Vulcana go and sleep because she would need enough energy to travel to the Temple tomorrow.

The next day Vulcana, Nightingale, and Morgenstern all headed up the winding, narrow, and sometimes non-existent path to the Temple of Eterna.

The Temple of Eterna is a large Greek style temple that is completely open save a small room to the back where the occupants sleep. The temple changes from gold in the day to silver at night, and always has a soft glow surrounding it as it was blessed by the PlagueMother when the Clan first moved there. There are 11 occupants in total that stay in the temple, both adult s and children. The two adult dragons are mates forever trapped by time so they may watch over the children who reside with them. The children who live there were blessed by the PlagueMother with eternal youth and they are trapped in time as well.

Vulcana enjoyed playing with the children in the temple, but she was ready to head to her temporary den and take a nap. She was headed after Nightingale, Morgenstern right by her side, when she heard a cackling noise behind her. She turned and looked, but she didn’t see anything that stood out. She was about to turn around and continue walking when she saw movement in the corner of her eye. She turned and that’s when she saw it, what appeared to be a Dire Hyena was following her. Now that she thought about it, she realized that it had been following her since about the time when she met the Clan leaders. She told it to shoo and caught up to the two mates, who had gotten pretty far ahead of her.

She realized the next day that it would take a lot more than that to get rid of the canine. She spent the entire day trying to get it to leave her alone, but it wouldn’t. She eventually caved in and let it come with her to which it happily trotted at her side wherever she went.

For the last day of her stay before she set out again, they had a party in which everyone from the Clan came and celebrated her Manat, or the story of Vulcana’s life, as they do every dragon who leaves them no matter where they go. She received many gifts from apparel to wear, to stuff for her new familiar, she even received a skin that she couldn’t wait to try on. She promised she would try and keep in touch with them all, especially Epilepsy who she had come to think of as a friend during her brief stay.

The Clan leaders said their farewells and Vulcana said hers, then she was off to go find her next adventure armed with some food, her gifts, and a new companion to keep her company on the road.

The Journey home

Night fell, as Vulcana was resting. She thought long and hard about each of her visits, while her new companions sat next to her. Vulcana looked up at the stars, thinking about the wonderful gifts, aswell as kindness everyone had givin her. "I want to go back, I want to return to a place I can call home" she thought. she got up alongside her familiars, she walked, she didn't know where she'd end up, all she knew was that she was moving, and that was enough for her.

As Vulcana walked, she saw a clearing, she ran, she ran as fast as she could, flapping her wings to go faster until she finally collapsed. She smiled with tears in her eyes, looking up at a familiar faces and hubbub of the lair. At last, she was Home.
