Farris and his family were the reason I became so obssessed with spruce as a color, which kickstarted my spruce collection so they get the honor of being the first dragons in my lair and my main lore characters :)

xxxxxxxFarris raised his head from his paper to look at her. His mate had the same deadpan expression she always had. Once, Adalon had been very expressive, before the Guild, before they departed from the Behemoth. Somewhere between the Viridian Labyrinth and the Twisting Crescendo, however, she changed.

xxxxxxxHere they were at this reformed ruin on the shores of the Tsunami Flats. She was leaving.

xxxxxxxFarris intertwined the fingers of his two hands and blinked trying to understand why would Adalon join the Exalt forces when the two had always adamantly opposed them.

xxxxxxx– Okay. Hm. Why? I... – He sighed, passing a hand through his head. – Didn't we... Aren't we against Dominance wars?
xxxxxxx– I am through with this Guild, and I want to understand what happened with Meep and Kiler.
xxxxxxx– And you want to do that by following the down the same path that led to their deaths?!
xxxxxxx– That is for me to decide.
xxxxxxx– What... What about the Guild, what about... – He felt his throat completely dry before gulping. – What about us?

xxxxxxxShe sneered in disgust and stood up from her seat. Farris watched her gaze out the window into the court beneath their room. She shook her head negatively in very smooth motions. He patiently waited for her reply.

xxxxxxx– From the moment you favoured her over your own daughter, there was no longer "us". – She said in an angry and mocking tone.

xxxxxxxFarris could feel the ire growing inside him. It was always that discussion as they went back to this useless and endless debate.

xxxxxxx– I had the Guild's best interest in mind. Arwen was ill-suited to run this business. You know it, and she knew it. Should I have risked the Guild over yous petty pride?!
xxxxxxx– Keep lying to yourself if you feel better. I am leaving. – She started walking towards the door.

xxxxxxxHe loved her so much. He could see her, mage hat and wind magic, moving pinwheels and curtains of beads and crystals. She couldn't leave. She couldn't.

xxxxxxx– Addie. Please... Don't go... I... – He tried to embrace her, but she refused, pushing him away.
xxxxxxx– I am so done with you and your Guild. Have a good life, Farris.
xxxxxxx– Please, Addie... I can't... How can you leave me alone in this world?
xxxxxxx– Oh, Farris. – She almost sneered his name in sarcasm. – You must be either really blind or think I am stupid.
xxxxxxx– What?
xxxxxxx– You are not alone, Farris.
xxxxxxx– What?!
xxxxxxx– Have a pleasant little life with your Guild. – She sneered to the point of growling. – You both deserve each other.

xxxxxxxShe opened the door and stepped out of the room. Farris called to her twice, then leaned against the door frame. She was joking, had to be. That night he would talk with her calmly, and she would see things differently. Adalon would see he was right.

xxxxxxxAt dinner, he patiently waited for her to join him, but she didn't.

xxxxxxxAdalon had joined Dominance efforts shortly after their talk.

The Beginning of the Guild

The Lightning Farm
His birth clan had been full of highly ambitious dragons. Sprockets to the core, they were hardworking and fierce. Farris was never the warrior type, he had a penchant for trading and commerce. He would often partnership with Charlotte, a fellow youngling from his clan as they worked together and brainstormed something different for their lives. Thinking they would not truly find profit with such avid competition from dragons of their own element and nature, Farris and Charlotte made the decision of leaving the Lightning Farm and join a different clan on the Tangled Wood. There, the dream of establishing a Trading Company took wind.

The Foxfire Bramble
Farris life started as a courier for a shadow clan, where he worked together with Charlotte, doing out-of-clan deliveries while she managed in-clan ones. Delivering parcels, Farris met his new clan's digger and gemstone forager, a beautiful imperial named Adalon. The two quickly fell in love and decided to expand their small gemstone selling business to other flights. Charlotte encouraged both to establish their business on an even smaller clan where they could play up to lower rates to pay guild leaders as they helped the smaller clan grow roots. The trio quickly found a small clan on the Foxfire Bramble and settled down, hoping to see their trading company grow, but also, Farris and Adalon hoped to soon have their own family.

They stayed for a long time on Darkwind Fleet, their new clan. Long enough for Farris and Adalon to have their first nest during a journey and return home with their new hatchlings. As the years passed, however, it was clear two of their children wanted nothing to do with their goals or the trading company and dispersed into other flights, eventually joining the Dominance armies. Meep and Kiler passed during a conquest soon after.

Farris and Adalon were quiet through the journey to the Exalt Outpost where their sons worked at to pick up their affairs. On the Exalt outpost, the two noticed a young recruit and her uneasiness in joining Shadowbringer's dominance armies. Touched by the deaths of her own children, Adalon took the imperial in and offered her a job in their trading company.

Farris and Charlotte picked up her enthusiasm and ambitious nature, and the three started scheming what would be the next step on their small trading company. Their workaholic nature started to make Farris drift apart from Adalon and their surviving daughter, Arwen. Eventually, Charlotte voted on Nephilim's favour to become the Guild's Manager, against Adalon's vote.

Angered by her parents preference for the new recruit, Arwen left the family to settle her own elsewhere, cutting all ties with her parents. The loss of their three children strained Farris and Adalon, and as he grew more and more ambitious with the encouragement of the focused and determined Nephilim and of his almost-sister Charlotte. Adalon started distancing herself from the two and the Guild as a whole.

The Birth of Porto
Years passed in their new clan. The Darkwind fleet offered them a good place, but Farris was always butting heads with the clan leaders and their flight representatives when it came to sales. He knew at some point he and his associates and guild members would need to find another smaller clan where they could set the rules.

"Perhaps our own clan." – Neph kept suggesting.

When she learned of a small clan disbanding and a large portion of clan grounds being emptied, the two ultimately decided this was their chance to see the Guild finally take wind. This would involve complete dedication from the guild members they had back then as they would pretty much start a new clan from scratch. To Farris surprise, but not Nephilim's or Charlotte's, Adalon refused to join them in this new endeavour. She had no more love for the Guild, or Farris, and decided to cut ties with them.

As Charlotte and Farris reached out to the last of the Nilfay Dragons that resided on the lands that would one day become Porto, the two scavenged a single shadow egg and decided to hatch it as a sign of good fortune for their new clan. Charlotte advised him to take better care of his family while she was away, informing she had secret plans for the Guild. She told Farris to face up his feelings, and marry Nephilim, like he wanted to deep inside. As the many letters he wrote for Adalon came unanswered for many years, Farris made a vow to never let his greed drive his family away and promised Charlotte he would speak with Nephilim after the Guild was officially established.

The original guild members – Farris, Charlotte, Nephilim, Mercurio and Venus – settled the guild down in the shores of the Driftwood Drag, where the Tangled Wood met the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and established the small harbor they called "Porto" as their Guild's headmaster quarters.

By the time Charlotte was gone, Farris proposed to Nephilim; and by the time of their wedding, the Guild was firmly established and thriving as a family-run merchant trading company.

WAVE WONDER WALTZ

From the 2017 Wavecrest In-Flight Event run by me, of which Farris was a main character

On Farris request, his family acted as the host to a grand ball and dance organized by the Navigator Guild of Merchants. After renting the large Levitos Ballroom, Farris and his family received dragons of many clans from all over the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Sadly, a gigantic Wave Sweeper broke into the place at night, when only his two daughters were in, and took his eldest child, Maria, away.

It took a lot of investigation as well as exploring the Levitos Sweeper's den to finally locate Maria. The Sweeper put up a great fight but it was finally defeated. Thanks to the help of the guests, Maria was brought back home safely by Farris and his newly made allies.

Farris Kingsmith
As leader of the Navigator Guild of Merchants, it's several trading vessels, the entire Navigator Harbor as well as a large portion of the town's lands, Farris is the richest guy in town and widely famous despite his reclusive nature. A workaholic by nature, like most lightning dragons, he's always working or trying to further his goals. He's a very demanding boss, and his stern nature deosn't make him the most popular among his employees. He greatly relies on Nephilim and their daughters to put up a good image and impression of their reputation as Farris himself doesn't have the easier temper to deal with.

Most know nothing about his personal life and often assume wrongly that Farris only cares about his work. He is very family-driven and in fact, is always the first to mention how his company is a family business - it only exists to provide to his family. He values his children a lot, as well as his lovely wife and grandchildren. He knows personally how much the price of putting your work above your family, and he doesn't intend to see the tragedy that fell upon his first family fall upon his new one.

Regardless of his personal life, however, he works really hard to develop Porto more and more, making the town a known trades harbor and tourist attraction. He's a born diplomat, but absolutely hates the Clan Leadership system as well as it's Flight Representative council model of rulling, and would much rather see Porto become a thriving merchant city free of Deity alignment. Only time will tell if his wishes will come true.

Beloved wife and dearest ally. The one he loves the most. Former exalt rescue Farris saved to be his secretary and was just as ambitious as him. Started pressing him to push his agenda even further. Deals with employees and Exalt efforts of the guild

Foster sister and oldest ally. Trustworthy confident and best friend. A hard working vagrant from his original clan whose egg was found and hatched on the same day Farris was born. They often call each other 'my non-sibling'. Always has the best of the Guild in mind, just like him.

Sweetest daughters, his pride and joy. Overbearing and over protective, never thinks they are ready to take over the Guild. Let's them be adventurers instead and be the clan's diplomatic representatives. Spoils them rotten then says it's nonsense people think the two are his favourite children.

Foster son, right hand man and personal attendant. Scavenged egg from when he first moved to the Tangled Wood from the Lightning farm. Lots of conflicted feelings, mostly due to his wife's dislike of him in favour to their biological children. Hardly ever apart from him, trusts him entirely.

Sweetest grandchild, innocent of all accusations, how dare you. Never thinks she is in the wrong of guilty of any accusation. Loves her dearly and spoils her heavily.

Youngest son, whom Farris spoils a bit more than the other simply because he fears he may pass and leave him alone in this world (as if that made any sense seeing as his wife is 20 years younger or something). Ended up making Betinho a bit more spoiled than was expected and even the Navigator princesses agree that he's a cry baby brat.

Not quite true, although he has his bubbly wife Neph do most of the boring agenda checkings and keeping up tabs on his employees birthdays and similar, Farris cares a lot about his own family and never misses a birthday or anniversary. He does tend to confuse his granddaughter's birthday however, but there's only so much you can ask of a man, right?
