one of two clan representatives YOu ExPecT mE tO wOrK?! FoR tHaT???!!?!?! The second richest guy in town who just so happened to own the lands the clan settled in after moving from shadow flight. Rumor has it that he is Pegleg Kelly's son, and both neither confirm nor deny it. His wife Caju married him in an arranged marriage, and now they're inseparable. Mostly because he is as lazy as it can get and hates having responsibilities, so Caju does all the managing of their properties. To be honest, he's a privileged sausage. His most important job in my stories is being a bully to every single dragon in existance. He's best described as "that guy who's a jerk because he knows he's too rich and has too important parents to ever face any consequence for his ****."

xxxxxxxWarm sunlight kissed the roof of the elegant dwelling nestled among the billows of surrounding vegetation like a jewel on green velvet. Sturdy yet graceful walls in rich umber with accents of blue and mauve spoke of comfort. Wide windows arched beneath the sweeping eaves, one of them open to catch the gentle breeze. A few birds fluttered over the rooftiles, chirping sweetly to one another. xxxxxxxA shriek burst through the open window, followed by a hurled quill that soared into the overhanging branches. The birds huddled against the tiles. Moments later an inkpot sailed after, spewing a thin dark trail. xxxxxxxJuca shoved himself away from his desk, feathers on end. “Enough!” he howled. “Numbers! Reports! Begone!” With a lash of his tail he spun, knocking a stack of papers to the floor, where they spilled across a stack of ledgers, a sock, and a plate of empty mussel shells. xxxxxxxJuca flounced across the room and threw himself onto his couch, shoving a discarded scarf aside with one foot while he groped about the floor. Extracting a gaily painted lute from underneath the couch, he plucked at its strings desultorily with red-enameled claws. A lock of pale hair fell into his eyes. Juca seized it and glared at it. xxxxxxx“How I pale! How I suffer! Can she not see that this desk work is making me ill? Write the border reports, indeed!” The Coatl twanged a few chords, then fell silent, sulking. After a few minutes his tail twitched. With an exasperated hiss Juca writhed into a sitting position, shaking his trapped wings free and flapping them a few times. Petals flew from the garlands at wrist and brow. When he folded his wings, cobwebs from the fusty rafters overhead festooned the feather tips. A spider scurried frantically for cover. xxxxxxx“It’s just so unfair!” Moodily, he cradled the lute and played a few minor chords that modulated into a soulful melody. Juca added emphasis on the bass strings, then a delicate counterpoint. The sweet notes filled the room, drawing chirrups from the roof above. Juca ignored them, head bent over the lute in concentration. Finally he shook back his mane and raised his chin. xxxxxxxCajuuu, Cajuuu, warrior lady xxxxxxxThe sword cannot understAND the flower ... xxxxxxxAs the Coatl’s voice broke on the high note, the birds fled, scolding. Juca sang louder, eyes half-closed, tail beating time against a faded cushion and raising small puffs of dust. His pleasant tenor wandered among the notes of the lute like a drunken ampelope, rendering a melody only marginally related to the one he played. Dissonant combinations of pitches shivered the pair of crystal goblets on a shelf above the room’s fireplace and sent the spiders in the rafters scuttling. One of the window panes began an ominous shimmering. xxxxxxx“SHADOWBINDER’S SPIT!” bellowed a voice outside the window, cutting the lute off in a jangle of discord. A graceful head shoved itself through the open window, the rakish red plumes on its hat fluttering. “Juca! Either play or sing! Not both!” xxxxxxx“Hello, dear,” Juca sighed, stuffing the lute back under the couch. | x |
