We were quite skeptical on having a foreigner, but specially a member of another... – faction is what we're calling them? – as our head of justice. At first, most of my family voted for a Navigator Judge, and I was considering my dear Maria for the job... But she's still young. I don't want someone so young in such a powerful position.

So... This nocturne arrives and he seems quite competent on his job. We were hiring Helvandr and her gaolers as guards and jailers so... Why not give him a chance? And let me tell you one thing... this Eldbjorg figure was up for the task. He has more than shown to be a diplomatic character, very trustworthy. You can count on him to not favor those on his side, not even Helvandr, which was a surprise, I must say.

You see, I was expecting him to side with her but as it turns out he will hold her accountable if she steps out of line. Nobody would judge him if he went easy on her, I mean... he arrived here with her. But nope. Not him. Remarkable fella, that Edd guy.

It's quite remarkable to see a partnership work this well.

_______Edd was always a calm and collected fella. From birth his moral compass was strong and he was raised by dragons who valued fairness and open opportunities. For that, Edd learned from young age to be fair and equal to all. Even during his hatchling years, he was seen as a tempered dragon with a gentle personality. Despite lacking the physical strength needed to become a warrior, it was his dream to become a fierce warrior and scavenger on the Shifting Expanse. Most of his childhood was spent training for that role, learning how to wield swords and channel his lightning magic. Fate, however, had different plans for him. In a tragic accident, he suffered an injury on his hind legs which crippled him, making him unable to stand without mechanic support.

_______It was a harsh defeat for him, as he had to give up on his dream of being a warrior and for many years he was left to his own devices, gloomy and depressed. Alas, with age comes wisdom, and as he aged, Edd quickly learned his clan had it's fair share of boisterous fighters, while having very few mediators and peacemakers. With the right encouragement from his former battle mates, he took to his real talent and vocation, focusing on becoming a scholar, studying laws, crimes and punishments, letting his old trusty sword be simply a memento from his child years.

_______As he became older and more experienced, he departed from his clan, seeking to further improve his knowledge. His journey eventually brought him to the Southern Icefield, where he lived most of his adult life, learning from Icewarden's acolytes how to be a fair yet strong willed judge. His calm personality grew colder and even more neutral, to the point he's often considered uncaring. On this new clan, he met Signe, who was his closest ally, with Helvandr and her three scouts soon following to form a small gathering of dragons whose expertise was finding, imprisoning, judging and punishing dragons.

HELGARDR KEEP

_______Although they never bothered naming their task force, Edd worked closely with the dragons who would one day form Helgardr Keep. Always just and down-to-earth he was outrage to find out Helvandr and her allies had been fired of their jobs as clanguard in favour of the clan leader's offspring. Edd refused to stand for nepotism and sought Helvandr to follow her into whatever place she decided to settle in.

_______This eventually led them to Porto where Edd is considered trustworthy and reliable, if a little bit of a party killer. Either dragons love him or hate him because of how reliable he is at doing his job; the natural downsize of being the city's judge. He is old enough to have no qualms about sentencing dragons to fair punishments for their crimes and yet has a lot of patience to know the reasons a crime was truly committed, often taking that into consideration when passing sentences. All in all, most dragons will admit he knows what he is doing, and is fair and just while doing it.

_______As he settled into living into the Palace of Justice for his work, the manor's patron quickly caught his attention for her reclusive nature yet refined tastes. As she often came to chat with him and hear about his newest cases, Edd got more and more attracted to the young Pearlcatcher. After so many years, Edd thought it was perhaps finally time to settle down, so he started courting Fjellsid without holding high hopes due to their age difference. Alas, his calm nature soothed the dragonet's own demons and she found solace in his company. While Edd will not save efforts into speaking praise to his beloved Fjellsid, the pearlcatcher is extremely shy, and a bit apathetic. Still, he remains her number one fan and it's quite known that speaking of her is one of the few things that can draw more vivid emotions from Edd.

The two have no intentions of having offspring, and live together in the Palace of Justice, never speaking any more words than are necessary and being somehow reclusive and mysterious. They are one of the most popular pairs around town, and people often wonder what their life is like behind doors.

Twin rings, twin towers

xxxxxxxA storm raged outside his window and all around the house, trying to claw tiles from the roof and rip flags from their poles. It was like a cat playing with a terrified mouse, right before the final devastating blow.

xxxxxxxEldbjorg sat by the window, where the half light that storms produced was slanting in from five different directions. Sunlight kept momentarily breaking through the thick clouds, making his scales shine brightly for just a second. In his claws he held a beautifully crafted ring, set with three precious stones in an array of colours. He turned it around and around, admiring the workmanship of it and thinking deeply of something that had happened a while back. He had had the twin of this ring then, the inside edge of it not at all worn down or dulled, the crystals bright and gleaming in the dawn light. He had stood by the same window then as he was now, in different weather and a different time. He had been awake for hours that morning, turning the same thought over and over in his mind, poking it, prodding it, pushing it away then pulling it back to hug to him. How could such a decision be so hard to make? It's not like his life was on the line, just his love for someone…

xxxxxxxThe sun flashed on the ring and sent a rainbow of light into his blue eyes, making him blink and squint down at the masterfully made piece of metalwork. How wonderful it looked, but how much more wonderful would it look on her? He closed his fist around it and gazed out of the window, watching birds hopping about on the roof opposite. Below those feathered angels were two smaller birds perched on a windowsill, both off white in colour. He knew those two oh so well, so much so that he always looked out for them now. His gaze drifted beyond the two small birds to see a beautiful Pearlcatcher half visible behind the window's glass. Fjellsid, the dragon who was playing on his mind. He had admired her for so long, been such close friends for what seemed to have been forever. He had been dithering for weeks, wondering if to finally propose to her.

xxxxxxxThe ring chinked against his claws and he looked back down at it. So brightly it had shone, as if it had been urging him on. With a lick of his dry scaled lips he had turned to make his way to the door…

xxxxxxx– Eldbjorg, sir? – Someone called to him.

xxxxxxxHe blinked and focussed on the ring he was holding, his twin of Fjellsid ring. With a smile at the memory of that glorious day, he stood and made his way to where whoever it was had called from, the mechanical device that helped him walk creaking a little. He couldn't deny that he had not loved that day even if he was paid. Something as great as that could never be lied about.
