The abysmal difference in income and riches between the Guild members and the other denizens of Porto make friendly relationships rare. Members of the High Council of the Navigator Guild are often loathed around town.

Some members, however, find their own way to navigate through the other factions and groups thanks to a more relaxed nature, engaging in social events or simply keeping similar hobbies to some members of other factions and groups.

Well, Sev is not one of them.

Painfully shy and downright workaholic, Farris' right hand man is often considered ~~and mocked as~~ a snob. He's not exactly vain or rude, quite the opposite, but he's among the highest ranks in the Guild and doesn't deal well with the other factions. He's elegant and humble, but not exactly friendly, having a hard time relating with the other groups. He's got a bit of social anxiety and doesn't deal well with large crowds. All that helps keep him very excluded from the cities' big events which in turn, just make his reputation as a snob grow.

It doesn't help being the Guildmaster's right hand man. If Farris or Neph are absent, Severo runs the Guild, which obviously makes the other guild members either terribly jealous or scheming to take his job. All in all, Severo is not liked by neither the Guild nor most of town.

The Guildmaster's son
As soon as negotiations to settle the Guild in Porto were finished, Farris found Sev's egg in the Driftwood Drag. Pegleg Kelly encouraged him to hatch it, as a sign of good fortunes for his newly established Guild. Nephilim, however, voted against. She knew Farris quite well to suspect his fatherly instincts would kick in the moment he had a hatchling to care for. The imperial was right, of course, and seeing Farris grow more and more attached to the young pearlcatcher pushed her into pressure Farris it was finally time to have hatchlings of their own. If she wanted her own hatchlings to inherit the Guild, there was no more time to lose waiting 'for the right moment'. The moment was right there, before Sev became Farris' favourite child.

Alas, Farris still loved his foster son, which in turn made Neph very anxious about his presence. As Maria was growing up, she made sure Severo was being raised elsewhere on the clan, often being cared for by Kelly, which made him end up seeing Juca and Carolinda as something of a family as well.

All in all, despite being Farris' foster son, he doesn't consider himself part of the Navigator Family, which makes Nephilim very happy. She will often praise him before gently reminding him to know his place.

Beloved Family
Modesta arrived in town to become a priestess and deal with corpses and the deceased. She was young and lively, a charming young dragonet. She fell in love with Severo at first sight when the Navigator Guild came to greet her upon her arrival. From that she started pursuing him to become his mate and it took quite a while for him to catch on her affection. Nephilim was the one to talk senses into clueless Sev, as she thought having his own family would push him even further away from her family.

Alas, that worked like a gem, as Modesta and Severo were tied by the hip. They complete each other seamlessly and are madly in love. Their similar natures were a match made in heaven and they are often considered one of the most stable and loving couples in Porto, as everybody knows nothing could tear the two apart.

xxxxxxxSevero and Modesta were taking some much needed couple time when it happened.

xxxxxxxThere was nothing wrong with their relationship, of course - quite the opposite, the Clan’s most devoted couple were still linked at the hip. However, recently Modesta had begun feeling that there was something missing in her life, and she knew that Severo felt the same, much as he tried to deny it.

xxxxxxxCome today, when the Pearlcatchers were off on a leisurely stroll along a river. The two of them had not gone on a date for a very long time, mostly because of their individual duties. Being the adopted Guildleader’s son, Severo was eternally busy, and Modesta had her own responsibilities to distract attention. In the end, they had been strapped for some alone time, and a leisurely riverbank visit was the solution.
To ensure that they would be alone, Severo had chosen a lovely secluded river that the Guild rarely, if ever, decided to visit. This was exactly where the problem started - here, and with the little blue egg, nestled carefully between some reeds and the river’s shore.

xxxxxxx- Oh my goodness, - Modesta said, and quickly fished the unhatched egg out of the water. - Severo, look, an abandoned water egg!

xxxxxxx- It must have washed away from an irresponsible Clan’s nest, - He said, with a frown. - We should take this egg to Farris as soon as possible.

xxxxxxxModesta knew that she was meant to agree with him, but relationships are not built upon eternal agreement. What better time to assert herself than right now, when destiny had handed her the perfect solution to their problems?

xxxxxxx- Or we could hatch it, - Modesta replied, with the beginning of a sly smile. - I’ve been thinking about raising a family for a long time, Sev.

xxxxxxxHe couldn’t say that he hadn’t been expecting this - any attentive mate knows when his spouse is yearning for hatchlings. And he had been very careful to make sure that he would notice, because in the past he had been completely oblivious to Modesta’s affections. A dark time that he was trying to forget - mostly because it made him seem like a clueless fool.

xxxxxxxShe was his life, of course, but the little egg in front of him was making him. . . quaver anxiously.

xxxxxxx- Or we could take it to Farris, - He suggested again, trying to use a little levity to prevent any arguments from breaking out. - We are already a family, Modesta! My heart could not be any more full than it is already.

xxxxxxxThat line was supposed to melt her at the edges and make her agree with him. Perhaps it would have worked on a different dragon, but Modesta only laughed.

xxxxxxx- We can have a little one with us, love! I see no reason why he should have to grow up alone and unloved, when we have the perfect home to welcome him into.

xxxxxxxSevero involuntarily flinched at her words, thinking about his own past. Immediately, Modesta seemed to realise her mistake, and quickly tried to placate it.

xxxxxxx- Sev, darling, I didn’t mean to say that you grew up alone and unloved, I’m sure that Farris-

xxxxxxx“-Saw me as second to his own children,” Severo wanted to reply, but bit his tongue. He had never been overly talkative and now did not seem like the best time to start. And besides, who was ever in the mood to hear about his daddy issues? He was barely ever in the mood to talk about them in the first place.

xxxxxxx - I’m sure that Farris always loved you, Sev. - Modesta continued, carefully.

xxxxxxx- I know what it’s like to be raised from an abandoned egg, - Severo said. - I know what it feels like to have your father’s love and then watch it go to someone else. If we ever do want to have hatchlings, do you think that I would do the same to this poor little dragon?

xxxxxxx- Wouldn’t it be worse, then, to give it to Farris? - Modesta countered.

xxxxxxxShe too, had many other things that she wanted to say. It was obvious to her and the rest of the Guild, who had eyes, that Severo’s familial issues were badly misplaced. He had some sort of strange, aloof relationship with his father, who still loved him as much as one of his own, and had never felt that he truly fit in. When, all along, the one who was driving him out of his home had been Nephilim.

xxxxxxxSo why doesn’t he have mommy issues instead? Modesta had always wondered, and the desire to ask was gnawing badly at her. But for the sake of their relationship, she also bit her tongue.

xxxxxxxRelationships may not be built upon eternal agreement, but they certainly can benefit from keeping a few things unsaid.

xxxxxxx- I just want to give the little angel a chance, - Modesta murmured. - I know what you’re afraid of, love, but I promise that will not happen with this egg. Because you are not Farris and I am not Nephilim. The past is not doomed to repeat itself if we learn from its mistakes.

xxxxxxx- What does Nephilim have to do with this? - Severo responded, making Modesta sigh with exasperation.

xxxxxxx- If you won’t listen to me, then listen to yourself, - She said. - I can see the way that your eyes are watering, I know you better than you know yourself. And there is no way in Tidelord’s domain that you are going to leave this little sweetheart alone, to be abandoned before they ever get a chance at life.

xxxxxxxSevero thought about her words.

xxxxxxxShe was right, of course. He did want to raise the child. He did not want it to go through what he had, being raised by Farris and lose a chance at a true home. But part of him was even more afraid of raising it himself - the only thing worse than subjecting a phantom sibling to his father was becoming his father instead. That thought already kept him awake at night and silent during Modesta’s conversations about raising a family.

xxxxxxxBut she was still right. This was an unhatched water egg, the epitome of an abandoned child. First it had been abandoned by its family, who had either died or not cared enough to keep the egg safe, and now by the strangers who came across it. The egg had even been abandoned by its deity, Tidelord, for god's sake, and all this before the hatchling had even opened its eyes! That wasn’t exactly a pleasant life for anyone to have.

xxxxxxx- We can take it home for a little bit,” Severo murmured, feeling the words choke in his throat. - As long as nobody else knows about it until we make a final decision.

xxxxxxx- Thank you sweetheart. - Modesta kissed him, swooping the egg under her cloak to keep it warm. - I know that we are going to give them the home that they deserve.

xxxxxxxSevero wasn’t so certain about that. But later, seeing the little egg, nestled in a bed of blankets beside the fire, he knew that he had already lost.

xxxxxxxEvery abandoned kid secretly yearns for the chance to save another from the same fate. Watching this little water egg now, safe under his roof, Severo wondered if it would be possible for him to be a good father, despite what the rest of the Guild thought of him.

xxxxxxxAt the very least, he could show to Farris what it really meant to raise a child. That thought made him very happy, as he drifted off to sleep.

God, Severo is so pretty, it’s unfair to the rest of us. He’s actually pulling of a tertiary like ringlets without it being distracting or overwhelming - it even adds a nice subtle touch to his overall look. And that Ravenhearst accent is just the beautiful cherry on the pretty boy pie. Absolutely gorgeous, would steal any day without a second thought.

I did not expect it to be that difficult but WOW your lair. I read his caption after I decided I would pick him and like,,, correct. His sanddune rags match his secondary really perfectly. The corsair cutlass matches his tertiary too and the whole skull mermaid pirate theme just ties together so well with all the pieces you added. Severo is serving.
