There's a legend in the Scarred Wasteland, an old tale told to weak hatchlings, about a dragoness created by the Plaguebringer before the Wyrmwound was wet. When she pulled herself free from the Plaguebringer's pustules, she was already fully-grown. She was among the first to taste prey, to bleed into the warm earth of the wasteland, to litter it with bones. She ran up and down the eastern coast and fought off encroaching Water and Shadow forces. Before and after the gods made peace, she was a terrifying beast on the battlefield, bringing glory to the Plague flight, heralded as a champion of Plague.

And then she disappeared.

Vague descriptions of her exist in the foggy memories of snappers older than the reefs of the Sea of a Thousand Currents themselves. The denizens of the Wasteland might recognize her--evergreen scales fading into black wings, saturated red eyes, a purple belly that served as a warning of violent death--but outside of the Plague flight, not many remember who Decay really was. Her triumphant past doesn't seem to exist outside of a few memories.

STORY ~~⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤~~

She used to be an icon of Plague's power. For her achievements to be erased like that, a grave mistake must have been made. It began with the first calamity to rattle Sornieth, when the Lightweaver's imperial children first rose from their graves, defying the natural order of life and death, to become emperors.

The battle was hard-won, but despite the casualties, the world recovered. In the aftermath of the battle, unaligned magic making the air stiff, a new power settled into the old mirror. She found herself able to puppet the dead, not as reborn entities, but constructs of her own will. And looking at the imperial carcasses, clearly remembering their power when chained into one being, she thought: What glory I could bring, by chaining these dead things to the will of Plague. The world will see that we can make anything ours.

Although the three-headed beast obeyed its master, the crime of forming an emperor was not taken lightly at that time, when the earth was still healing from the first one. Her dog was shot down, all three heads pierced by bone spikes, and the gods ordered their young sister to execute the mirror. Unwilling to lose such a powerful warrior, the Plaguebringer instead burned all records to Decay's existence and doomed her to build a castle from the bodies of dragons for all eternity.

To the east, on the coast, on a ruddy beach with red waters, is a castle made from bone and flesh. Here, history bleeds into present, and builds itself a bright, glorious future.

━Decay has written many books on necromancy, with the bulk of it consisting of essays on the morality of necromancy in regards to Plague's cultural understanding of survival and rebirth.

━She is still very bitter about basically being kicked out of the Plaguebringer's inner circle, even if that was over a million years ago.

━Has a very deeply ingrained, instinctive hatred of Shade, back from when it was a terrifying force of disaster. Also of beasts, but they are much less of a threat, and she considers them about as harmful as livestock.

━Transformed into a bogsneak very recently--quite the change after spending well over a million years as a mirror. She's adjusting well and is very happy to retain her heat vision, although she hasn't figured out what the third set of eyes do.

━Very, very well studied in anatomy of many species. Decay's skilled at drawing anatomical references and her art is used in several scholarly textbooks.

━Both her writing and drawing appears under the pseudonym Maleficent.

━She'd never say it out loud, but her loyalty is to the Plague flight as a whole, not to the Plaguebringer. That said, she never refers to the god as Plaguemother, as many other Plague dragons do.

━Has a less instinctive, but still intense, hatred of emperors--primarily because, if she was so severely punished for trying to control one, everyone else should be, too.
