 Her crown gazes upon her a thousandfold. She is surrounded - not by enemies, but by something far worse - herself. She sees a distortion of herself in every shining decoration: bloodstone eyes, the bloodstained blade of a rapier, budding rose-thorns strangling her arms, all red and gold and regal. A nervous butler calls her name, as does the old Red King, trembling and twitchy and terrified of the one dragon with power over them. She wonders, for the first time, if it was worth it. ♥ ● ● ● |

Eilen was born to wealthy parents in one of the Red Court's finest nurseries. She was weak and fragile, at high risk of mana sickness later in life, but her parents paid no heed to the nurses' warnings, and when she came of age, neither did she. She met the Red King at a masquerade ball. Their budding relationship would grow into love, and then marriage. They would raise a child together, and she would find true happiness in their son's joyful smile. They were the picture-perfect family. Yet, it could not last. The Red King, ever unsatisfied, called upon the Fairest One. He wished for endless riches, and she used her magic to grant him everything he asked for. As for Eilen, she received nothing but a terrible case of mana radiation sickness. The Fairest One's magical energy was far too intense to imagine, and her power left Eilen with symptoms far too horrific to describe. She wondered, then, if the Red King was truly okay with risking his own wife's safety, if he truly thought this was all her life was worth. Maybe the Fairest One had given her a fierce heart as well. Vengeful and paranoid in her poor health, Eilen plotted to end her own beloved husband's life. She could not be identified, and she inherited the throne and all of his power. She mourned for him, with her son, yet it was all a lie. She could not honestly mourn for him who had almost killed her. From then on, the magic of the Court kept her alive, yet she feared the day it wouldn't. The disasters striking all over Wonderland did nothing to ease her mind. Mana, rations and the rate of survival hit an all-time low for the Red Court. Nearsighted, she could see no other option than to declare war on the sister Court. Her son would be disappointed in her, but it was what she had to do. For the survival of her own Court, but most importantly, for the survival of herself. Soon, rumours about her started to spread. The laypeople of the Court blamed her for the war, accused her for killing the old Red King, but she wasn't surprised. After all, these were things they could never understand... She was surprised when she learned Carnelian, the Royal Advisor, was the source of such rumours. ♥ ● ● ●
