You're kinda quirky but you'd make a great scatter project hun. In fact, I'll do it! Only maybe once or twice because you're the first special-eyed Gen1 I've....actually hatched. And you're a birthday kiddo :D

EDIT: Thanks kid you became a cute critter and now I am legally obliged to keep you. Named after the order of Salamanders.

Mimicry is rife in Nature. You need only look at the dragon-like entities found within this lair to realise just how widespread it truely is. Whether or not it is magic or science that contributes to the existence of these creatures, it is up to us as the dominant species on Sornieth to catalogue and take steps to preserve a world we would otherwise overlook.

Earlier this week, Auratus came to me with a small container from his latest hunting spree. Usually, Auratus showed the witch Belladonna his catches first, in case she wanted them for any of her brews, so I was curious. I took a peek at the specimen, adjusting my glasses for a better focus. Salamanders, like other amphibians, do exist in the Labyrinth in various places and forms, but this wasn't any ordinary salamander. It had bright red and black blotches with a distinctive white underbelly, and a long tongue that extended past its chin. What astounded me the most was the fact that it looked, for all better words, like a miniature bogsneak. However, the slender feet and complete absence of scales differed it from its draconic counterpart. The eyes were beady and bright, lacking a pupil, and the tail was short and stubby. It showed signs of budding regrowth however. The rest of the tail was lost, presumably dropped upon capture as a decoy. Auratus asked me to keep the creature a secret from Belladonna, worried the witch may find it a quality potion ingredient. Auratus is a little daft, but he loves his amphibians and this was a rare find indeed. I agreed, and promised to share with him my experiences raising his catch.

This little one has an affinity for fire it seems, especially when it comes to fireplaces. He (upon closer examination) jumps right into the flames without a second thought, skin glowing in response to the warmth. I'll admit, the first time he did it I almost lost my nerve. So convinced was I that he was trying to cook himself I doused the entire structure with water. It did little except make us both wet and annoyed, but I learnt that he was fireproof. I let him sleep there now while I write, and when I can find someone to watch him. I wouldn't say he's a nuisance. His body retains a great deal of heat after his sessions, and my carpets suffer because of it, but he's ignorant of any accidental wrongdoings. In a sense, he's like a pet. I wouldn't classify him as once, since he is so very like a Bogsneak in his other mannerisms. I sense in him that strange, alternate intelligence one finds in species one cannot verbally communicate with. He understands simple commands and phrases but cannot speak himself, preferring instead to meep or growl when he wants attention or a specific piece of coal for dinner. Yet, he instinctively knows if I'm vexed or saddened. He approaches me, making small chirruping sounds, and lies over my forelegs before closing his eyes. Sometimes, I like to believe that he smiles at me before settling down. It's almost as if he's reassuring me that everything will come up roses in the end. At least he's forgiven me for that first incident.

Yes, I think I'll keep the little critter. I've named him Urodela, after the order of Salamanders. Old ladies like me need all the companionship they can get!

rk2v01v.jpg The salamander is an amphibian of the order Urodela which, as with many real creatures, often has been ascribed fantastic and sometimes occult qualities by pre-modern authors (as in the allegorical descriptions of animals in medieval bestiaries) not possessed by the real organism. The legendary salamander is often depicted as a typical salamander in shape, with a lizard-like form, but is usually ascribed an affinity with fire, sometimes specifically elemental fire.

This legendary creature embodies the fantastic qualities that ancient and medieval commentators ascribed to the natural salamander. Many of these qualities are rooted in verifiable traits of the natural creature but often exaggerated. A large body of legend, mythology, and symbolism has developed around this creature over the centuries.
