Biography
For a long time, Nightmare was happy. He was raised as a warrior, his original clan having a mentor who promised to teach him to become the best battler he could, maybe even one day being able to fight in the Golem Workshop. Nightmare was happy with this life.
Except for one thing. The other hatchlings. They harassed him relentlessly about his love of weapons and the practice of acrobatics. They couldn’t understand why he was so interested in the art of battle.
For a while, Nightmare was able to ignore this. He tuned out the jeers and taunts, instead focusing on becoming stronger and training with his mentor, slowly becoming better at slaying the beasts that resided in the Coliseum’s many locations.
But everyone has a breaking point. As he got better at fighting, the harassment worsened. After some time, he couldn't take it anymore. After so much time filled with torment from the other dragonets, Nightmare snapped.
During the night, he snuck into his clan’s butcher’s shop. He snatched a cleaver hanging from a rack and set out with murderous intent. In his mind, he believed he was truly justified for this revenge.
Nightmare snuck back into the sleeping place of the hatchlings, prowling quietly towards the sleeping dragonets. He raised the cleaver and swung down, quick as a flash, and beheaded the sleeping dragonet that had wronged him so.
...Which is what would have happened if something hadn’t barreled into him, knocking him over. He landed on top of a dragonet, startling it awake and causing it to scream, awakening the other hatchlings and practically the whole clan. The thing that knocked him over, his own mentor, reached for the cleaver.
Nightmare got to it first, though, and killed his own mentor. By then, the other dragons of the clan had arrived, staring in horror at the murder. Nightmare clutched the cleaver, daring anyone to attempt to fight force him out of the clan. No one did.
After that, the clan lived in fear of him, never purposely hurting him in fear he’d turn the cleaver on them. He hated this.
Once he grew old enough, he left. Nightmare was tired of the constant looks of terror he got from his fellow clanmates, the ones who were supposed to be his family. He traveled to a clan far, far away, one that was so far away it’d never heard of him. There, he was finally treated kindly eventually. Treated as family.
He decided to host a contest of sorts to find his future mate. That’s how he met Spectra, a fellow dragon who had a rough time as a hatchling. Now, they happily await the hatching of their first set of eggs.
Nightmare spends his time as a mercenary, using the cleaver from his past as his main weapon, but despite the acts he commits he never loses his love for Spectra and his clan.
