Very little is known about Charon’s past, let alone why he chose to help Clan Skylark. While he is chatty and actually loves being asked personal questions, he also loves lying. A lot. Dragons frequently assume he is from the Shadow flight due to his tricksy, dodgy ways, and end up being surprised when he removes his hood and reveals his eyes. Charon never gives straightforward or truthful answers when they relate to him, or if he is in the mood for games. Ask him about his leg injuries one day, and he’ll tell you ‘I picked a fight with the wrong Imperial’. Talk to him the following day, and it’s, ‘A passing Double-Tailed Warcat thought they were chicken wings’. Hailey might be the only dragon in the clan that Charon will speak to truthfully.

Paradoxically, Charon is still the first dragon to visit if you want advice or information on alchemy and ancient magic.

Like most Spirals, Charon is hyperactive. Unlike most Spirals, he claims he is actually over five hundred years old and saw the Battle of the First Four in person. Yet, he remains annoyingly youthful and shows no sign of being old at all. Of course, he could be lying, but he can recall information that a young dragon would not know (or would struggle to remember, even if tutored by Snappers). The strangest thing is, if you were to catch him napping or observed him carefully, you would notice that the wounds on his hind legs never seem to heal, and are still bleeding. Amethyst has tried to examine him, but he insists that his wounds are ‘An unfortunate side effect of immortality’.

Odd behaviour and possible immortality aside, Charon specialises in biological alchemy and was not only once the advisor to Hailey and Yarrow, but is also responsible for leading the clan’s exalted dragons to the Windsinger. Such a feat could only be done by dragons with exceptional magical skill or closeness with the Eleven. Charon has admitted that for him, it is the latter, but refuses to reveal how he became close to the Windsinger, as ‘He asked me to keep it a secret. I can’t disappoint him again.’

To find Charon, one only has to head to the territory’s southern borders and look for his tree once the sun sets. He can usually be found hunting for insects and alchemy ingredients, or brewing something suspicious in his cauldron.
