Born on a waxing gibbous moon, Orion was blessed with the power of the stars. Being born in light flight however, Orion's deep dark wings were criticized by many as cursed and hideous. He was considered as a disgrace to all the members of the light flight, and when he grew up, hatchlings his own age started to call him a freak... a darkling... a misfit. On most days when he was in school, the hatchlings there with beautifully glowing yellow wings would beat him up for his own ugly wings. Tears streaming down his crystalline cheeks, Orion often came home with bruises. And, on one occasion, he came home with freshly spilled blood seeping down his body as a deep gash lay untended to on his belly.[/center]
One day, his parents decided that they would take no more of this torturing madness. Well aware of how their son was treated, they told Orion that they would be moving to Dragonhome. "The dragons there are kind and generous, and we will have 45 acres of parched land all to ourselves!" Storm explained to Orion. Although Orion was glad to leave the Sunbeam Ruins, he also dreaded what he would find in Dragonhome. Maybe worse treatment awaited him there...
During the long flight to Dragonhome, Orion's mind kept replaying scenes of his wretched past. The insults of others repeated over and over again, until he could no longer take it. "Is it always going to be like this? Will I never be accepted, will I always be an outcast," Orion wondered. His head filled with rage, and he stopped flapping his wings. Thinking that the world might be better without him, he plummeted in a spiral downwards...

His parents, realizing what had happened, dove down to save him from impending doom. But, it was too late. Suddenly, a soft glow enveloped Orion. Gently, the stars whispered in his ears, "Do not fear, young one, a greater destiny awaits you. Take what others have inflicted upon you, and turn it into love. Revenge will never be the path. Instead, you will find that a path lays before you in helping others. Soon, you will grow, and find who you are meant to be. For now, rest..." And so, Orion was gently lifted by the celestial glow and put down on the ground above the cliff. He fell into a deep slumber, free of the nightmares that plagued his sleep.
From then on, Orion found a group of friends in Dragonhome who accepted him as a dragon. But, what he enjoyed best about his new home was the flat land that went on for miles. There were no trees to obscure his vision of the night sky, only land... lots of it. Gazing at the sky above him, Orion quickly taught himself all the constellations, and thanked the stars and the moon every night for saving him that day. With each passing day he spent studying the night sky, the closer he grew to the dark world above him.
Orion grew up to be a mentor. He taught other hatchlings about the beauty of the stars above them. He shared compassion and hope with others who were less fortunate than him, and always stood up for the weak. Orion was always there for someone to cry on, and was willing to listen to the tales of every dragon who wanted someone to listen to them. Many hatchlings looked up to Orion in their childhood, as he was their schoolteacher for astronomy and was kind and understanding to all around him.
But, even as Orion grew older, he never forgot the day that he was saved by the stars.
One of his favorite quotes comes from one of his favorite childhood characters: 
Yes, never stop believing in yourself and never give up. Even if there comes a day when everything seems against you, hold your head high, and know that there is someone out there who still loves you and will support you. You are one of a kind, a puzzle piece that fits in the grand scale of the universe. You may seem small, but without you, the universe will seem incomplete.
