Y U M I N O
ASPIRING NECROMANCER

"REBELLION AND QUESTIONABLE METHODS"

Origins - Yumino ran away from home at a young age because he was tired of his Arcane family, and wished to join a Plague clan. He never made it, however, as he was found starving in the Starwood Strand not far from the Clan of Magic Roses. Archad took him under his wing, fed him, clothed him, and offered him an education in magic, but the young dragon did not want to be taught. He sought a darker type of magic- A dangerous mixture of Plague and Shadow magic that could be used to revive the dead, called Necromancy.

He spent his days studying this dark magic, cutting himself off from any contact with others. He always wore a hood to cover his Arcane eyes, as he was ashamed of them. His only wish has been to become a Plague dragon, and to revive his dead pet- But he's never told anyone about the latter.

Personality - Yumino is the embodiment of an edgy teenager. He doesn't talk to anyone, he hides in his bed, and spends every waking moment either sulking or practicing magic. He snaps at anyone who tries to talk to him, keeps a diary of things and people he hates, and refuses to let anyone wash his clothes. He only really shows any excitement around the Riot of Rot, which is his absolute favorite time of year.

Deep down, however, beneath his prickly exterior, he's very lonely. He wants to go and join the other young dragons having fun, but he tells himself that he doesn't have the time, that he must always be working towards his ultimate goal, reviving his pet, lest his promise to it be broken.

Relationships - Yumino hates everyone. Specifically, he hates all Arcane dragons, which is a majority of the clan. He thinks that they're all stupid, and that they never get anything done. Most other dragons are okay, but it's not like he talks to them anyways. The only exception is Ophelia. He's constantly pestering her for stories about her past in Plague, but she refuses to revisit those memories. He'll never stop asking, however. He doesn't have time for a mate, and as such is not looking.

Clan Role - Yumino does not really have an official role in the clan. He is not even apprenticed to anyone. If asked, he would say that he is the resident necromancer, but truth be told, he doesn't really do a whole lot of necromancy, he just studies it, and many of his attempts fail. Perhaps that is because necromancy is an ancient magic that requires years of study to master...

Magic - As said before, Yumino is an avid study of Necromancy, though he is not very good at it, and likely will not be for several years. He has neglected studying Arcane magic to the point where it is almost dangerous to his health, and spends exhausting amounts of time practicing Plague and Shadow magic, the former of which he is quite proficient at. He likes to think that this makes him intimidating, but no one is scared of him, in fact, everyone is quite bored of his antics by now.

Plague Magic
STORY BY MAGICMAKERROSE

“For the last time, no!”

Yumino shrank at her piercing gaze and sharp words. The Skydancer looked down on him, with the authority of someone who was used to disciplining unruly hatchlings. Frankly, he felt offended. He wasn’t a hatchling anymore, and he just wanted to hear a story. That wasn’t too much to ask, was it? She wasn’t even busy at the moment!

He looked defiantly into her blood-red eyes, the mark of a true Plague dragon. “I don’t care if it’s a violent story, I’m grown, I can handle it! Tell me about your battles! How did you get those scars? That’s all I want, just one little story, please?” He begged.

Ophelia, the Skydancer, turned away from him. “That is not the problem. Now please, go away, or I will have to treat you like a child. Don’t you have duties you should be doing right now?”

He glared at her, even though she wasn’t looking, and stuck his tongue out childishly. That would show her. Then, he ran off into the forest, because he really did have duties he was supposed to be doing. Imagin had asked him to help gather animal bones for a spell he was preparing to help Thrix’s aching joints. Normally, Imagin’s apprentice, Lukrow, would do it, but Yumino had a special knack for identifying the best and thickest bones due to his necromancy experience, so Imagin found him quite useful when he needed something quickly.

He stalked the forest, listening for the rustle of creatures in the brush. He found a few, but it soon became apparent that the animals had all scattered, already hearing him coming. He wasn’t exactly the most silent hunter. Frustrated, Yumino ventured deeper into the forest, trying to stay as quiet as possible.

Then, he hit the jackpot. A dead cerdae carcass, right between two trees. He could find all the bones he needed right here, and more. Excited, he bounded forward to begin tearing out the ribs.

He could’ve never guessed that it would be a trap.

As he reached for the carcass, a net sprang up between the two trees, taking him with it. He was suspended in the air above the dead cerdae, his wings tied. From above the trees, a horde of Talonok descended, cackling and screeching. Oh no. Was all he could think.

Yumino screamed. “Help! Help! Somebody help me!” But he was too far away from the clan at this point to be heard by anyone. So he tried focusing his magic- Plague magic, not Arcane magic, since Plague was what he studied, despite being weak at it.

Nothing came of his concentration, however, as his fear got in the way.

He dangled there, helpless, as the Talonok closed in, poking him with their staves and spears. One called out something that Yumino couldn’t understand in his native Draconic, and they set the cerdae on fire.

They were going to eat him, and there was nothing he could do. He cried again, hoping that someone, anyone, would hear him.

Then finally, someone did.

A pink blur shot out of the woods and tackled two of the Talonoks. She screamed, “Get away from him, you filthy birds! Who do you think you are, picking on a child like that!” The Talonoks screamed as hissing boils filled with acid emerged on their feathers, their bodies smoking with red magic, turning their bodies to nothing but ash as the acid burned away their skin. The dragon who had saved him emerged victorious, but she was not happy.

“Back to the clan. With me. Now.” Ophelia said.

As they walked back, she avoided looking at Yumino. He tried several times to ask her how she did that spell, but she ignored his questions. She would only tell him one thing.

“Yumino, sooner or later you will realize that I am not proud of my past, no matter how spectacular a life it may seem to you. One day, when you have matured, you will see that pain it causes me to cast such a destructive spell. They were Talonoks, our enemies, but not even they deserve such a gruesome death. Do you understand?”

He nodded, but she was still ignoring his actions.

“Now go clean the nests and line them all with fresh moss. Don’t make me tell you twice. And Yumino-” She said as she walked away, “Don’t stray too far into the forest. Or else.”

The gleam in her red eyes was the last thing he saw before dashing off to accept his punishment.
