Shortcake, a wildclaw dragon and one of the first members of the clan, quickly befriended the cofounding Faes. More experienced in dragon clans, Shortcake talked deeply with the couple about what is needed in a clan and what dragons would need to do to make the clan flourishes. Deciding that the clan would be focused on being a safehaven, a place for dragons to be safe and free, it was necessary that some dragons would take on the responsibility of protection. Shortcake became one of the captains of The Jade Burrow, adviser, warrior and one of the core members of the coliseum team.

After a short flight to the nearby stream, Shortcake found himself being followed. Unsure of what to expect, he pretended to not realise until the right time to strike. Before his claws hit the riptide clipper, it gave the biggest smile (as much as a riptide can smile....) and clack of it's claws. Maybe the thing was hungry. Shortcake allowed it to follow him home, offering it some food. The riptide clipper, snatched the food and quickly made it's way to Shortcake's sleeping spot. Shortcake could never find the courage to make it move, and eventually they would become the best of friends a dragon and a crab could be.
