written by (me) Asthenia stood outside a wall of tightly twisted vines and allowed herself one sigh of discomfort. She was not one to reveal her vulnerable side to anyone, and she knew that even from this seemingly barren wall of growth, someone was most likely watching the front gate. But she was the most uncomfortable that she had ever been since her hatchling days in her parent's sickly nest. All of the green around her made her dizzy, almost faint. She could feel the repulsion in her feet with every step she took further into the Gladesister's domain. It was not wrong for things to grow, she knew that. If there were no growth, there would be no disease to fight it. Despite that, however, she had never been across the borders of Nature. In fact, Asthenia had always considered herself to be one of the few who would never touch even a claw to the fertile soils of the Gladesister. But it is required that every year, new representatives from both Plague and Nature come across, to try and keep a peace between the Sisters. Asthenia had joked with a few of her sparring friends, insisting it would be one of them. But Asthenia was the best warrior in her clan's ranks and she was chosen without hesitation by their clan leader to take on the responsibility. Their representatives needed to be able to defend themselves, after all. It had shocked the strong guardian, left her devastated even. What was she to do? How could she possibly leave the Plaguemother's lands for those of the Gladesister? It was the one place she had been raised to hate and despise, and now she was being chosen to go and make peace with a clan of Nature? Ashtenia had told herself it wouldn't be possible for her. But she prepared to leave and traveled through the Everbloom Gardens and into the Gladeveins, her body trembling all the way. She did not lose strength or spontaneously combust. She was uncomfortable, but she would not die like she felt would be more convenient. Instead she touched a claw to the viney gate in front of her and awaited someone to open it. It took quite some time, but eventually, her attention was grabbed as the watched the vines begin to pull apart from each other. The vines themselves made an entire door in between two massive trees, she soon learned, and she hesitated to step through when there was no one to welcome her. But suddenly, another guardian much larger than herself stepped forth, bowing his head slightly. He brandished a large pair of antlers, proof of his strong connection to his element. He intimidated Asthenia greatly. "Welcome, Asthenia. The Gladepool Nurturers and the Glademother are glad to have you," he spoke out, his voice strong and deep. It was very paternal to her, which was oddly comforting. He stood aside for her and held out a great fore paw. Somehow she doubted the Gladesister was glad to have her there. "Please, let me show you to your new home." She was reluctant to step forward, but her instincts to her surprise, were throwing no warning bells. She swallowed, looked to the green guardian before her, who was smiling warmly, and accepted her fate as she entered the clan's territory. |
