Biography

Dunkelheit
Scavenger
(Searches the territory for any items of interest)

"Drink up with me now
And forget all about
The pressure of days
Do what I say
And I'll make you okay
And drive them away
The images stuck in your head."
-"Between The Bars", by Elliott Smith

During the beginning of the Flickering Shadows clan, Dunkelheit came an exile, owning a
different name; she had been banished from the Shadowbinder's region for the murder of her clanmates. Over the course of a week, five of her fellows were viciously slaughtered by one of their own clanmates; they'd never expected, after all, to be killed in their own dens. There was hysteria widespread through the clan, the leader desperately trying to calm the terrified masses - in a desperate attempt to regain some control, the leader decided to choose a scapegoat: a midnight-scaled skydancer named Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia, understanding her position, was terrified; there was no way she would be believed in her claims of innocence. The trial (if it could be called such) was brief, no room for argument being allowed - Cassiopeia was chased from her home without a drop of sympathy from her erstwhile family and friends.
Eventually, after hours of close pursuit, Cassiopeia finally escaped into another element's
region, her persecutors stopping at the edge of the Shadowbinder's land. Cassiopeia collapsed, exhausted, a small distance into the other elemental zone, not knowing or caring to which deity it belonged. Late into the next day, she woke once more, dragging her feet as she walked on though the lush grass, seeking some kind of proper shelter (as opposed to the open area she'd slept in previously). She carried, like Atlas, the weight of her world upon her shoulders - with her exile, she knew her (ex)clan would be picked off one by one, the murderer still among them as a friend, no doubt unrecognized until it was too late to stop them. Should she have fought harder for her innocence? Sought and captured the killer herself?
Startled out of her musings by a brief flash of movement among the trees in her peripherals,
Cassiopeia stopped, fearful that her clanmates had decided to continue their chase into the next territory. To her surprise, what emerged from the foliage wasn't a familiar face, despite their shadow-aligned eyes and scales so similar to her own - open curiosity painted on their face, not the malice she'd expected. The dragon introduced himself as Zerif, a member of the Flickering Shadows clan, currently on his way to fish from a nearby river, to which Cassiopeia replied, asking if she could accompany him on this trip, his agreement coming with a smile. Gradually, Cassiopeia relaxed, giving more and more information about herself, even giving a brief explanation of why she was here (omitting only a few details, despite her fears). She found herself enjoying his company immensely, shyly asking if she could, perhaps, maybe, join his clan? Zerif, knowing that they've been seeking new members, readily agreed, and they walked back to the camp together, the day's catches hanging over their wings.
Once they arrived at the camp, it came to Cassiopeia's attention that she'd never given her
name, and thus, she began to introduce herself to the clan's leaders (Obsidian and Raspberry) before stopping herself. Why should she keep a name granted by her accusers? Leaving only a brief pause between her initial sentence and her correction, she gave herself a new name, a fresh start: Dunkelheit. Zerif grins in delight, complimenting the elegant flair, the drama of the name, a knowing glint in his eye. Dunkelheit smiles in return, seeing a future of happiness here, in the Viridian Labyrinth, its flowers and foliage protecting her from the cruel gaze of the past.
