"What would my head be like
If not for my shoulders
Or without your smile?"
-"C'mon", by Panic! At The Disco (with Fun)

_____Deep in the heart of the Icewarden's domain, frozen in place for an unknowable number of years, motionless, a dragon suddenly stirred at the approach of another. Eyes, having not seen for years, begin to crack open; scales, fused together by the unforgiving cold of ice, begin to shift; bones, immobile for so long begin to creak. The frozen dragon slowly, meticulously, raises its (previously bowed) head, bleary eyes settling on the first dragon to pass it by for what may have been centuries. The approaching dragon, now visibly a male guardian, freezes in his place, a few yards from the other - he is frightened, having not expected a dragon he'd presumed dead to move. The frozen dragon only continues to stare, pupils slimming and dilating, presumably attempting to see more clearly what stood before it.
_____The guardian blinks, shaking his head, before looking back at the frozen dragon, pondering now what, exactly, he was looking at. The other dragon had entirely frozen legs up to its elbows, with heavy chains encircling its wrists, fading into the ground without any slack - there were veins of ice like frozen rivers along its body, having completely overtaken its horns and spines, and presumably crippling its wings. The dragon, unrecognizable as any species, should not be alive, yet here it was, staring intensely into the guardian's eyes, who now notices the other's size - the chained dragon was easily two meters (or more) taller than him, and larger altogether.
_____The approacher comes closer, nervously glancing up before moving to inspect the chains. They appeared to have completely resisted the cold (unlike their captive), so the guardian pulls down from his back a chisel he'd intended to use for ice fishing, and begins to cut the chains. The other dragon appears pleased with the gesture, and stretches his legs as soon as they're freed, achieving the feat despite the encasing ice. The guardian, less nervous now, seeing that the other isn't behaving aggressively, introduces himself, supplying the name Ghost. The other dragon only looks confused as Ghost speaks, soon after seeming to reply in a language the other didn't recognize; in response, Ghost tries, instead, to convey his name with gestures rather than words. It works, and the frozen dragon points to itself and rumbles out a name - Dusk.
_____Ghost looks at the surrounding area, and seeing no one and nothing, makes a decision - he'd been suspicious of the Icewarden's nature for a while, now, and seeing this seemingly friendly dragon chained and frozen out in the middle of nowhere, he decides it's time to find a new home. Ghost attempts to communicate through gesture that he thinks they should both leave this place, and Dusk seems to be in agreement, understanding the gist of what Ghost meant. Thus, they both travel for weeks, seeking a place to stay, Ghost acting as a sort of translator for Dusk, as Dusk begins to pick up words here and there, learning the language he'd apparently never known, though he seemed unable to speak it. They had trouble finding a clan in any elemental territory that would be willing to welcome both of them - most weren't willing to deal with Dusk's lack of understanding, and generally unnerving looks. Eventually, however, they came across the Flickering Shadows clan, and were welcomed into the group regardless Dusk's abnormality.
_____Upon becoming a part of the clan, it became obvious that Dusk was a guardian as well - he had near-immediately approached and began protecting Zerif, despite the other's displeasure at the situation; Dusk had found his charge. This development made Dusk's survival an even more impossible reality - for a guardian to be apart from their charge for so long without dying is bizarre. Dusk is incredibly tolerant of the other's verbal displeasure with being his charge, and continues to protect him regardless, only leaving Zerif's side to spend time with Ghost (which generally involves Ghost leaning on Dusk while he reads aloud and Dusk listens).
