The statue had stood at the center of the town for as long as anyone could remember. Generations had come and gone while the twisting dragon made of purple jade and gold looked over them. Little offerings of flowers, coins, dice, ticket stubs, etc. were often left on the pedestal in the hopes of bringing some luck to the offeror.

Kintsugi had awareness before this life. He might have viewed things a bit differently than a dragon in flesh form would, but the spirit he had been was aware of the world around him. Affection for those who had been born, lived, and died under the auspices of his protection was a glowing coal in the center of his being. His powers were small, but he did what he could to twist the luck of those who asked for it so that he could keep his charges happy and healthy.

Unfortunately the peaceful, prosperous life that the villagers had was noticed by those not so blessed. One dark day, raiders swept into town and took what they wanted from Kintsugi's loved ones. Fuming with anger and despair, unable to act from his side of the veil, he watched as the invaders pushed over his statue to break it into pieces small enough to carry with them.

With a blinding light, the statue shattered. What the raiders couldn't expect was that their actions would free the angry being just waiting for a chance to avenge his charges. Kintsugi gathered up the broken pieces of his shrine and formed a body out of it and drove the raiders out of town.

After it was all over, Kintsugi was surprised that he was able to stay with his body. Intrigued, he has been learning what it is to interact directly with other dragons. He brought the few survivors of his village to a safe place near Chaotic Daydreams, and the lair of the lunatics looks over them all. Kintsugi spends a lot of time with the other "oddities" in the clan, all of them learning to live in whatever way suits them best.
