It’s funny how such a small thing can change the course of an entire clan. The ancient Guardian founder of the Soothsayer’s Grotto had been doing his nightly patrol, checking every cave entrance when he found something strange. Underneath a small pile of rubble from a recent cave in, he found two gleaming eggs. The light egg had its internal glow shining brightly with teal flecks in between. The arcane egg could barely even be called arcane. The shell was so dark to be nearly blue and silver flecks floated around it.
Aysu was the first to hatch. Her arcane egg shattered on the first full moon just a month after Azalar brought it to the clan. The clan’s patriarch was the newly hatched Skydancer’s view as her bright pink eyes opened for the first time. “I thought this might be the time of your arrival, Aysu,” he rumbled. He backed up a few steps and then settled down to stare at the intriguing hatchling.
“Is there a reason that my clan is your home this time around,” Azalar inquired. His deep blue eyes were narrowed but if it was from suspicion or fear or something unnamed, Aysu could not tell. Stretching her small body, the Skydancer offered her Guardian a sly smirk. “There’s a reason the moon is the preferred light of the tricksters, young Azalar, ” she murmured instead of giving a direct answer.
Her wings flared out briefly and a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. “What happened to my wings, Guardian?” It was Azalar’s turn to smirk at his Charge. “I believe the close proximity of you and your… sister… has made the curtain between things more transparent.”
The Skydancer snorted and then inspected her silver-tipped claws. “Has Oriana hatched yet or am I first this time?” Azalar’s smirk faded at that question. “You are Aysu and I think we both know what that means.”
Arcane and Water eyes met in resignation and trepidation. “There has been a shift in the deities powers and the fact that both of you showed up to my clan on the same day...it’s worse than I could see in my visions.” The Guardian stood back up and shook his wings out before refolding them against his body. “It’s time we introduce you to the clan, daughter of the moon. They might need some time to adjust to the changes in the coming tides. I fear that darkness is falling over the land and it’s best to prepare ourselves.”
