Theme Song: Johnny's Rebellion by Crown The Empire https://youtu.be/LLfwVHdpOmo

WIP(dear gladekeeper it's so messy aaahh)

“I start to levitate
I feel the air beneath my wings
I hear my pulse
I taste the air I breathe
I touch the ground
I see the end and I feel whole again
I hear the echoes of a world I'd left behind
I taste the victory I thought I'd never find
I touch the ground but it's slipping away
From me and now I can't see it
I can't see anything, somebody out there, please help me, ah!”

When he was young, X was part of a small band of dragons who had made their homes amongst the desert valleys and hills. Formations of red stone decoracted the landscape, and each morning, was kissed by the bright rays of the sun, staining it gold. With the sun, rose the silhouettes of dragons as they crested the hills of the valley, the sun outlining their figures in a vibrant array of light. As dusk drew closer, the golden hills dimmed, only to be replaced by the fiery light of the setting sun. From his nest, X cried out, his shrill call echoing and bouncing throughout the valley before it was carried away as only a whisper on the breeze. X stared, with large inquisitive eyes, as his mother’s figure appeared over the flaming hill. She padded softly over to him, dipping her head to nuzzle his tiny face. X’s throat rumbled with contentment at his mother’s warm touch. Pulling back, she settled down gently beside him, her tail wrapped around his tiny body. Dusk was creeping slowly over the hill and X stretched out his neck in an attempt to catch the amber light that was slipping over the hilltops. As the light of the sun dwindled on the hilltop, X touched a final ray with his snout, feeling the warmth in the last remnant of morning. He smiled, and before long the light slipped off his snout and away into the night. X turned to his mother then, his tail twitching in happiness. She turned her head to him, a rumble forming in her throat at the sight of her son. X scampered towards her, tripping over her tail and landing snout first in her side. Righting himself, X looked back up to see his mother’s face peeking back at him from over her shoulder. He squeaked happily and bounced over to sit beside her shoulder. Looking up at her, X followed his mother’s gaze. Her eyes were cast upwards at the sky, the stars above reflecting in her watery eyes. She was staring intently into the sky, her eyes fixed on the flickering lights of the stars above. X stared as well, his tiny eyes flooding with specks of light as the night sky filled his vision. The sheer vastness of it all left him in awe, and he could not take his eyes off it. So there he sat, nestled warmly in his mother’s side, staring at the neverending expanse of the stars.
X wasn’t sure how long he had watched the stars before the dark cover of sleep had masked his vision, but opening his eyes now he could feel a cold emptiness beside him. Turning to look beside him, X saw that his mother had left his side and was now standing part way up the hill, her body tense. X tilted his head, and just before he was about to sit up, was startled down again by a loud cry that echoed about him and carried itself across the crest of the hill. X lay still for a moment, his breaths shaky, and watched as his mother made her way to the top of the hill. Then suddenly, the dark world was lit up as a flame exploded on the hillside. X cried out as the bright light tore across the sky, lighting up his world in thirsty flames. His mother let out a screech as well and took off to the sky, the beat of her wings sweeping the flames higher into the night. More unfamiliar calls echoed about him now, and X could hear the cries of other as their nests were attacked. Above him X could make out the outline of mirrors, their shapes dark and ominous against the smoky sky. X could see others rising to the sky now too as they took off in a flight of panic. X leapt up, his small cry reaching out through the chaos in some hope that someone would hear him. Somewhere close by X heard his mother’s call. He stumbled from his nest in pursuit of it and made his way gingerly up the hill, embers rolling past his feet from the remaining fire still burning beside him. Halfway up the hill X heard his mother cry out again, and, cresting the hill, he saw her. Her shadowed figure was outlined in the amber light of the rising sun, and she called out to him once more. X cried out in happiness at the sight of her, but then a second figure joined her. Its’ shadow melting in beside her as the vibrant light outlined them both. X could see his mother turn instantly as the figure tore towards her. In a flurry of wings and shadows X could see the mirror hit his mother’s chest, her wings beating backwards in an attempt to break away, and as the mirror latched its grip onto her, pulling. X screeched, hearing his own cry as it filled the night, and echoed back around him again and again. He could see his mother’s head turn towards him, and in the shadows of her face he felt he could make out a shining line of tears as they trickled from her sorrowful eyes. X longed to reach out, to feel his mother’s warm touch once more, but in an instant she vanished from sight as a shadow cast its sinister veil across him. The silhouette of a mirror burned before him, its dark figure made visible by the rays of sun creeping over the hill. X was frozen, and it seemed like an eternity as he stared, shivering, into the shadowed eyes of the mirror. It took only an instant however, for the mirror to reach out its claws and snatch X, dragging him upward into the sky. X screeched, but his cries were muffled as the mirror clasped his claws over his mouth. X looked back at the hill from which he had stood only moments before, casting his gaze over the nest he’d shared with his mother, and as he was carried farther, looked down upon the nests of the others. Fire still burned fiercely, and X could hear the echoes of fearful calls pounding in his ears, the beat of the mirror’s wings drowning out his thundering heartbeat. Before long the ground grew far away, and the home which X once knew was now merely an ember, burning bright on the hilltop as the sun trailed her flaming hands across the land... Staining it gold.
(still workin on the second pt. -w-)
X opened his eyes, hot sun pounding down on his face. He shifted his body from where he lay, the dusty ground sticking to his feathery skin. Lifting his weary head from the ground, X cast his gaze upward, squinting into the bright expanse of sky above him. Behind him, X heart a grunt, and looked over his shoulder to see a young mirror staring at him with daunting eyes. The mirror wore a bloody necklace of bird skulls, their carcasses still reeking of old and rotting flesh. He was small, probably only a few months old at most. His tail was twitching, and X knew immediately what his intentions were. X let out a low hiss, trying to deter the mirror from coming any closer, but to no avail. The mirror padded up, no fear whatsoever, and lunged at X’s flank. X shrieked, feeling the creature’s small teeth sinking into his flesh. He struggled to turn around, but the chains bounding his hind legs kept him from reaching his target in time. The mirror had backed off now, but stood close by, its eyes searching for another opening. Getting to his paws, X turned his head, his eyes following the mirror’s every move. Finally the mirror came at him again, trying for his tail. Mistake. X’s eyes narrowed as the mirror reached for him, and in an instant, the crack of bones deafened the clearing. The mirror screamed, a blood curdling sound that sent a chill down X’s spine. No matter how many times he’d heard the call of a mirror, each time sent a new shiver of fear strumming through his feathers. The mirror was writhing on the ground now, struggling to escape the pain taking over its body, his spine twisted and cracked. Unable to move more than his head the mirror made one final effort to escape his paralyzed state, but after the fate of his situation sunk in he turned to X, his four beady eyes wavering for a moment, before his body slumped limply onto the dusty ground, his necklace still shimmering with old blood as it clattered to the earth with him.
Huffing, X turned, as best he could, and bent down over the mirror, gently plucking the necklace from the its neck. I'll just take this as a token for your… hospitality he thought drily, tilting his head back to let the necklace slip down his feathered head and onto his neck.
