Gallicinia’s story begins like so many questing heroes’: a chance meeting with like-minded wanderers in an inn.

A faithful priestess of the Lightweaver, the young Fae had never considered leaving the Sunbeam Ruins until the raids began. The Beastclans, united under Talona, waged war on dragonkind. All across Sornieth, eggs were stolen, sometimes in the dead of night, sometimes from under the bloodied corpses of their parents, and the Sunbeam Ruins were no exception.

Unable to stand by and do nothing in the face of this injustice, Gallicinia set out, at first seeking only information. Her journey eventually took her to an inn, where she met other dragons sharing her goal. This small group pooled their knowledge and skills, and, driven by hastier and more aggressive minds, resolved to stop the thefts once and for all. It was not necessarily the choice that Gallicinia would have made, but neither would she disagree with a righteous cause, nor could her voice alone calm brasher hearts. It was a choice that would end in disaster.

For a time, this brave band wandered aimlessly, with no leads, until they caught wind of a recent raid by a group of Talonok warriors. With a target at last, the party gave chase. Following the trail of raided nests and murdered dragons, they pursued the Talonok deep into the Tangled Wood, all the way to the border of the Scarred Wasteland, where the bird-folk stockpiled the stolen eggs in their village for reasons yet unknown. When the dragons, inexperienced and foolish, reached this village, they charged directly into a confrontation.

They had not considered that they had just chased a small band of raiders back to the heart of their people’s territory. Talonok poured out of the shadows like bats at dusk and surrounded the adventurers. The dragons tried to hold their ground, as it was too late to flee, but what occurred in that dark wood was more slaughter than battle.

In the chaos, Gallicinia saw a pale green egg, and on adrenaline-fueled instinct, grabbed it and fled blindly into the wilderness. The Talonok pursued her, but as a small, dark-colored fae, Gallicinia stood a chance, however slim, of losing her assailants in the woods. So she flew, as fast as her wings could take her, until she felt nothing but blazing pain. If the thick forest had continued, perhaps she could have evaded the bird-folk, but unfortunately she came to a clearing. No longer hidden, and slowed by the egg she clutched to her chest, the Fae was a prime target for the Talonok around the glade.

By a stroke of luck or fate, the Guardian dragon Aurorus happened upon the clearing at the same time. The moment he saw the tiny dragon surrounded by bird-folk, he recognized the Charge he’d sought for so long, and rushed into the field to defend her for the first time.

Gallicinia had lost most of her pursuers in her desperate flight into the woods, and the small band of Talonok that had tracked her were unprepared to fight a Guardian. Those who were not killed fled back into the darkness, forgetting all about the egg carried by the fugitive Fae.

Under Aurorus’s protection, Gallicinia could rest and regain her strength. Her battle was lost, and there was nothing left to do but make the long journey back to the Sunbeam Ruins, the pale green egg the only thing she had to show for her efforts.

The Guardian gladly pledged himself to her cause. With his Search complete, he had no more reason to wander on his own, but would go wherever Gallicinia went, seeking whatever she sought. And, of course, she welcomed his company – and his protection. But though she was grateful for the rescue, the Fae was quiet and distant, reluctant to speak of the events that had led to the clash in the glade, or about the egg she carried, save that it was not hers. Aurorus did not pry, but let the reserved priestess warm up to him in her own time.

And over the course of their journey, she did, in her own way. Slowly, she began to reveal isolated details of what had happened, and by the time the pale egg hatched, Aurorus had pieced together a fairly complete picture of where it had come from. A bond formed between the priestess and her newfound champion, as they discovered how much they shared. Both sought to make a difference in the world, and both had rescued young dragons in distress; Gallicinia had the newborn Pearlcatcher, and Aurorus, the two orphaned Skydancer hatchlings that had been riding on his back since he found them lost in a Southern Icefield blizzard.

The two cared for these hatchlings together, and when at last they arrived at the Sunbeam Ruins, they had decided to begin a clan of their own. They selected a ruined temple on the Mirrorlight Promenade as their new home. In time, the temple would be cleaned and restored, becoming a shining beacon of faith and justice.

And in this spirit of justice, as Gallicinia named her new clan – called “Araven”, for the last remaining fragment of legible text engraved in the temple wall – she also founded the Order of Dawn’s Talon. Though her own expedition had met an untimely end, her quest would not be abandoned.
