The benevolent puppetmaster

Raising her sister from the dead as a partially-alive, partially-undead revenant who could act on its own or, at any time, she could choose to magically puppet... that was totally an accident.

But its an accident she explicitly promised herself to never abuse.

(Well... except for that one time she got drunk during Trickmurk Circus festivities and charged through the city declaring "onward, my mighty steed!" But that was one time.)

She couldn't let anyone know the truth, even if she wanted to tell them. She was sure that if their father found out, it would break him. She never wanted to see that happen. But unfortunately, life never really goes to plan. Sometimes life is unfair. Sometimes life hurts. Sometimes life lets a rival clan kill your sister in a pointless war.

Sometimes you just need to move on.
