Cranky Introvert with a Tongue Tied up in Knots

There is not much to say on behalf of a derg who is content with little more than a ball of yarn and and a pair of knitting needles, embroidering and stitching far into the night under only the careful watch of the cats attracted to his den. His kindness extends towards the inanimate objects under his direct manipulation and the animals that seek shelter with him, and no further - while he is not rude to the typical derg, he would much prefer to not interact with them in the first place, and will do anything to cut his interactions with them short. Still, food needs to be obtained, and yarns need to be bought from the market, so this derg has to come out of his cave and interact with the world sometimes - the latter makes up his longest conversations of the week as he discusses skeins, dyes, and batches in painstaking detail.

But surely, you say, there must be something that he wants to talk about. Some way to get this handsome fae to open up.

To which the patrons of Mavenlark, the clan from which he hails, beg you: Stop! Please! Go no further!

There is indeed one topic of conversation that Salem will renounce all instance of his introversion in order to discuss. And that is - the methods he uses to dye his own yarn.

See, at first, it starts off interesting. He's clearly passionate about it, and that sort of thing to the caring dergs is infectious. But then you start tapping your claw against the ground, shifting your gaze elsewhere over the horizon in order to track just how far the sun has moved since you began this conversation. He throws around words like "full immersion" and "kettle dye" like mines - you know if you ask what they are, he'll just keep you there longer. Soon you feel your skin begin to wither flush against your bones - when have you last eaten? Oh god, your throat - is it coated in dust from the inside out? Is it time for you to molt? Why are your scales falling out? The world goes black. Oh, Arcanist, you say, the light is growing brighter...have you come to take me home?

Just don't do it. Leave him to his devices. Maybe buy a doily from him. Refrain from any further contact.

His greatest secret (besides pretty much everything about him since he doesn't talk to others) is that he likes those incredibly sappy inspirational quotes that old mother dergs like to hang on their den walls; stuff like "Live, Laugh, Love" and "You Only Live Once". Something about them comforts him immensely, and he has a hoard of embroidery hoops with similar catchphrases in a deep, dark part of his den that he likes to look at when he's stressed.
