Raise your closed claws. Angle gloves so there is room to land. Make sure the kestrel can see the chunk of meat. Amnesty whistled a few round and somber notes. Her bird jerked his head forward, inspecting the reward with a dubious nature. He hopped off the scratched post and flew the short distance to the falconer, who smiled thinly and snapped a leash onto his leg and a hood over his head.
"Suppertime in an hour, Chirk. You don't need to eat any more or you'll be too full to practice hunting."

With a practiced calm, the guardian edged the bird of prey onto one of her horns and entered the aviary that Bleir had built for her. Her mate was a mouse's distance away from the wall on the far side, inspecting his most recent paint job. Amnesty had told him that all she needed was sanded wood, so there would be no danger of splinters. But he liked to be of assistance to the clan - if she were being honest, he liked being of assistance to her. She had no problem with that.

Bleir wiped his brush against the edge of a tin and stepped back to eye the work. "Brown, woodsy." Deep sniff. "Easy-to-clean paint. It's more of a stain, really." He looked hopefully at his mate. "Better than sanded wood, right my dear?"

Amnesty gave him a chipper smile, one that she reserved for him. "Absolutely spiffy, my cocoa bean. Now I'm going hunting for supper, Watermelon wants bat meat I do believe." She switched her young companion for an older, crusty looking hawk. Once the kestrel was in a cage, she removed his gear and released a satin mouse inside for him to practice hunting. The kestrel eyed the mouse skittering across his long cage in fascination, then turned to Amnesty and let loose an impatient string of klees. Shaking her head, Amnesty headed for the door. "Learn to have courage to kill, little hatchling. You were born to have blood on your claws."
