Biography

Every pearlcatcher knows they must take care of their pearl. If it breaks, a part of the dragon's soul is lost- some of their identity, their memories, or their emotions.
Froth learned this the hard way.

She was a only a few hours old, and didn't know any better- but she did know that the creature chasing her wasn't good. She had crawled out of her shell and created her pearl, like all pearlcatchers do, and was cradling it in her arms, admiring it. But as she stood there, a creature coalesced from the trees, a dark amalgamation of hatred and rage. It spotted her, the small dot of hope and light, and vowed to snuff her out. So Froth did what any hatchling would have done- she ran. Faster and further, trying to escape- but just when she thought it was gone, it would look out next to her. She was terrified, and in an attempt to make it stop, she threw her pearl at the creature.

Time slowed. The pearl soared through the air, hit the ground, and rolled to a stop in front of the creature. It stopped, considering this strange object. Froth held her breath. The creature pondered- and stepped on the pearl. Froth heard the crack, and felt it- like a part of her had broken, a light snuffed out inside. The creature sensed what it had done to the dragon, and turned away, satisfied. Froth collapsed where she stood, watching through pain-filled eyes as the creature slunk away.

The young pearlcatcher finally gathered the strength to crawl towards her broken pearl. Grabbing it, she saw a crack going through- it didn't split it in half, but still cut through to the center. Froth tried to fix it as best she could, covering the crack with mucus- but she still felt that broken part inside.

Lost, alone, and scared, Froth wandered through the forest, keeping her pearl close. Occasionally she would stare worriedly at her pearl- and that was how Aurora found her, the pearlcatcher making sure her pearl was alright. When Aurora tried asking Froth questions, all Froth could do was gaze sadly at the fae- she had lost her ability to speak when her pearl cracked.

Although she found it difficult at first, Froth soon adjusted to life in the Darksong clan. To communicate with them, she learned a rudimentary sign language, and the rest of the clan does their best to help her with whatever she needs. She trusts Wisp the most, who immediately accepted her the moment she walked in, reading scrolls to her as much as he could. But even with her trust in the clan, Froth has not shown them what happened to make her lose her voice, choosing to focus on her happiness within the clan instead of dredging up terrible memories.

Don't thank me for buying your dragons unless they get apparel or a familiar! Feel free to ask for them back, though. :)

Wandering in the forest, Aurora discovered Froth. The hatchling never spoke a word, she only stared at her pearl. Now, she participates in clan activities, still silent. She feels the most comfortable when she's with Wisp, who often demonstrates his scroll-reading abilities to her. And although she rarely finds herself in difficult situations, she has demonstrated a distinct ability for getting out of trouble.
She communicates with the rest of the clan by using a mix of sign language and images reflected in her pearl.
(Thanks to Subtonic for some of the ideas :) )
She has troubled dreams at night, and curls up with plushies to help.
