Biography
Agate
False Goddess
Former Priestess Exalted It is customary for dragon clans to send those that can't find a place within the clan or with new homes to serve the deities. Called exalted by their peers, those dragons depart to the private realm of their chosen god, never to be seen again. While it is unclear what transpires during their service, few have come back, and none remember their time with the gods. Over the years that has led into a split in popular opinion over the practice. While common belief tells of a great honor to serve one's god, many would rather live simple lives with their loved ones, and are hesitant to leave their homes and families. One such dragon was Agate, who started her life as a fae in the grassy expanses by the Windsinger. Rather than leave forever to serve an unknown god, the young fae stole away in the night, carrying with her precious relics from her former home’s vault in hopes of buying her own freedom with a new clan. Too small to make significant progress, and too young to be able to fend for herself the small female soon found herself cowering and fearing for her safety. A single fae, while magically powerful, is no match for a hungry beast while young and untrained. Hoping to win an edge that would help her survive, the female blindly dug through her stolen goods, grabbing a scroll at will and praying that it would change her, as well as her fate. It just so happened that the gods were listening. Divine While the use of breed change scroll is rare, most dragons are unaffected by their use. The sudden flash of light that accompanies the change is awfully theatrical, but harmless. After years of them being known to dragonkind, their use is quite commonplace and uneventful. Beastclan, however, aren’t so used to such degrees of magic. And when faced with a spectacular show of light and the sudden appearance of a young dragon apparently covered in jewels, some tribes might interpret that as a bit more than what it is. Taken in by a herd of Longnecks, Agate found herself not only lost among the sea of furry, anxious faces, but also somehow embraced as a sign of prosperity. Interpreted by the elders as a divine gift that would help them understand and thrive alongside dragonkind, the female became part of the spiritual base of the herd. Part priestess, part deity herself, the skydancer was consulted to settle disputes as well as predict the outcome of battles, crops and births. If sometimes her predictions weren’t exactly accurate they could easily be justified by some misdemeanor that had turned the gods against her beastly keepers – and naturally, she would be glad to intervene and appease the higher gods if only the herd would serve her a little better. Free As the years went by the herd thrived, and Agate grew bored of ruling it. Lulled by a sense of security and power fed by her “captors”, the female thought herself capable of likewise ruling any dragon clan of her choosing, if only she could leave the furry creatures that struggled to appease her. Fate once again smiled at her when Gypsum was sent to parley with the herd. Recent attacks by beastclan were compromising the delivery of goods within his clan’s territory, and his queen was eager to strike peace with the local clans, attempting to achieve peace for her people. Coveting the power the foreign female seemed to have, Agate quickly made her mind to go with the ambassador once he left. If the herd received the news of her departure with a feast and much joyful celebrating, the skydancer chose to believe that they merely wished to honor her one last time. Fallen Taking over a clan of dragons proved itself to be much harder than she had originally thought. The queen, as the others called her, clearly failed to see how Agate could be of use to her, and any attempts to exert her clear divine calling had been met with amused expressions and blatant dismissals. Even more offending to her higher status, Agate found herself assigned to Gypsum himself as his mate, since his previous one had… it wasn’t entirely clear what had happened, as the coatl was still a member of the clan, but somehow Gypsum had found himself lacking a mate, and Agate just happened to be available as an unmated female herself. The clan’s rules seemed barbaric and backwards to her, but there was little that she could do to impose her will. Not knowledgeable in any skill or trade, Agate is still struggling to find a role within her new clan. At least the years spent among the longnecks have made her fluent in several dialects of their language, making her useful in translating texts acquired from their scholars, and an asset to Gypsum when the male is sent on diplomatic missions with other herds. |
