Biography
Hector
Royal Bodyguard
Exasperated Mercenary Contract With each second spent looking after his charge Hector slowly realized that there was more to life than money. Slow, quiet deaths also had their merit, and should be properly considered when the situation called for it. He was convinced that his peace of mind called for exactly that. A mercenary of a plague clan hailing from deep in the Wyrmwound, Hector and his brethren are a fierce breed of warriors, taught from birth to survive against all odds. Fierce in battle and lending their sword to the highest bidder, the mercenary clan took contracts all across Sornieth, their warriors sought after and extremely valuable. Fearing for the safety of her returning child and the shift in power that may come from two succession lines within the court, the queen sought a bodyguard for the princess, sparing no expense in securing a contract for a sum that few believed to be true. The trip to the clan, located deep in the Fortress of Ends, was test enough to the skill and endurance of the applicants. The few dragons to make it to their destination took one look at their surroundings and were only too happy to go back to their lives in bustling cities and easier jobs – for living in the frozen wasteland where the Tempest Clan is located was as big a challenge as any. Despite the tempting bounty should one fulfill the contract for the princess’ protection, there weren’t many willing to see it through. For that amount of gold Hector could secure the rest of his long life. A single job that would give him the freedom to do what he would with his life, the imperial shook his head at the fools that would give up on such an opportunity. Signing the contract that would bind him to the clan for as long as the queen saw fit, he was confident that he had found even bigger fools in his employers. That was, until he met his charge. Charge Lydia didn’t have anything against her bodyguard. She respected him for having a trade and being good enough at his job that her high-handed mother thought him good enough to hover over her on a full-time basis. Unfortunately for the imperial, aggravating her mother meant aggravating him as well. As far as Lydia was concerned, Hector had been chalked down as collateral damage in their war of wits. Expecting a spoiled aristocrat as his charge, Hector was unprepared for the feisty and infuriating young skydancer he was supposed to watch over. Rather than keep her protected, his task became to simply keep himself from strangling her as he was forced to spend every waking moment running after the female – who by some reason seemed determined not to stand in the same place for more than five seconds. Hector looked back at his years of grueling training with a fondness most dragons reserve for a treasured childhood memory. |
