~
living with only her kin from her hatching days, she never knew any other dragon type. Like most pearlcatchers, gossip and slander was her life; it was a common currency in her clan, so she thought nothing of it. one cloudy day, while out with her (forced) gathering party, among the squabbling of getting pearls and claws dirty, thunder started to roar. soon wind whipped, rain pelted like cold rocks, one could barely see an inch ahead. the frantic pearlcatchers were running, flying, stumbling in every direction to seek shelter. Allium tried flying in the direction she thought was her clans domain but was soon caught up in a whirlwind. she spun for what seemed like hours, her wings breaking, scales ripping; it took every bit of her strength to hold her pearl, her soul, from being ripped away by this savage storm.
finally, she slammed into a thick tree and dropped to the ground; the dense foliage blocking most of the wind and rain. curling around her orb she struggled to stay awake but was lost to darkness.
when she awoke she was warm and dry. her wings bandaged, and a small pile of mushrooms near a small pond, as if saying. 'good morning, have some breakfast!' with her mouth dry and her stomach painfully empty she tried to rise.
"becareful, your wrist needs tending too.'
Allium started and clutched her pearl with all her might, ready to fight off any thief that may try to steal it in her weakened state.
'i was unable to wrap your wrists while you slept. you held on so tightly i thought it best to leave it and work on your wings.'
what she first perceived as a large tree before, moved its massive head low to look closer at her chest where her hands clutched her essence painfully. she noticed now that her left wrist was at a strange angle and hurt when she moved her claws.
'may i please?' a massive paw moved out from under the bark cover belly and stopped in front of Allium. she clutched her peal closer, wincing from the pain of her wrist. 'i promise you, your orb is safe from me. i have no interest in your treasure, only your injuries.'
Alluim allowed her left paw to be gingerly taken from her pearl and into the warmth of the dragons huge claws. looking up and catching the sad deep emerald eyes, the great dragon whispered 'i cant stand to see any child in pain.'
the Great Gladekeeper tended the wounds of the bright pearl catcher. making her rest until she was healed; she gathered for her, fetched her water and helped her work her muscles so as not grow weak during healing.
weeks passed as alliums wounds healed. dragons soon came and went bring food and water, fresh bandages and good tidings. all the while the Great Gladekeeper never left her side. the warmth in her smile and the softness in her eyes, at first, made the pearlcatcher uneasy. she had never met another type of dragon, let alone one with so much compassion and love. she was dumbfounded and struck silent, a phenomenon in itself for any pearlcatcher. she felt humbled by this this deity and the love she gave so freely.
once she was healed, it was time for her to leave. she begged the Great Mother to let her stay, she knew that she could not return to her clan after seeing such compassion from other dragons and knowing what she would be returning too. But with a small, sad smile the Great Gladekeeper placed a claw on the vibrant dragons shoulder, shaking her head. a dragon can not serve under a deity that it was not born under, unless exalted by her clan.
so she left her only true friends she had ever made, the only mother she ever loved, and went to find a new clan.
she has now dedicated herself fully to the Great Mother Gladekeeper and found her place in this new clan as their high priestess. she, humbled by her encounter with this loving deity, now keeps only her priest garb and pearl as her possessions. she dedicated all her time being to the Great Gladekeeper hoping, wishing one day that she may be exalted back to her happy home with her mother.
