Runestone

The Pillar runestone brings forth images of alliances, forgiveness and loyalty, as well as leaving the past behind and shared goals. It may represent reconciliation between groups, or, on a smaller scale, between individual people. Reversed, the Pillar has fallen: this is an omen of disharmony, hostility, or an irreconcilable separation. While it represents an ending, this does not always have to be a strictly negative: It could also represent breaking free from an unhealthy or unfavorable relationship.

Carmine is a dead end. And he knows it. Here I am, trying to figure out what triggered Hollowmaw's shift in demeanor - and more importantly, what her goals may be now. But he runs circles around me. As her mate and clan co-founder, I figured he would be well aware of any significant events, but he is infuriatingly vague. And worst of all, a bad enough liar that I know he knows. But he just flutters around happy and bubbly.

"You look stressed, Astoria! Want a cup of tea?" I wonder who's fault that is, you pint-sized pipsqueak. He is utterly infuriating, always with a bright smile and a listening ear and a cup of tea. He had the audacity to tell me that Sunbeam Fig tea is great for anxiety. I know this sounds paranoid, but... trust me. He wasn't trying to help, he was mocking me. It was all in the undertone.

Personality wise, he has an unfortunate streak of mischief, though he's wise enough to tell when it would be ill-placed. He seems to enjoy the simple things in life. Case in point, I found him basking in a sunbeam on a rock. He mused about how he misses the sunbathing spots in his first home, back in the Sunbeam Ruins.

He informed me that Clan Lucerna originated in Light, before transferring elemental allegiances to, in order, the Plaguebringer, the Arcanist, and finally the Windsinger. Certainly an odd amount of swapping. He explains them as diplomatic incidents. They first returned to the Scarred Wasteland to try and quell a blood feud between the local dragon clans and Serthis, and when their work was done, their gaze turned to a Centaur herd occupying the land of the Arcanist.

... he grew oddly silent when I asked him why they traveled to Wind, though. Before offering me that same blasted smile and awkward deflection.

He perfectly matches the talkative, bubbly, and honestly irritating Fae that Hollowmaw described in her tale. But there's... something else there, a sharp gleam of intelligence. He isn't stupid. And what's more, he's well-loved within the clan. After Hollowmaw retreated into herself, being seen less often in the grounds of Clan Lucerna, he took it upon himself to check in with his clanmates. He offers their favorite food, a friendly ear, a cup of much-needed tea - and, when needed, some accurate but hard to swallow advice.

But needless to say, as Hollowmaw's mate, he isn't a reliable source when he assures me that Clan Lucerna isn't up to anything sinister. I need to investigate further.

But as much as I loathe to admit it... he did make a good cup of tea. Maybe even good enough to tolerate his chatter again.

Do you trust Hollowmaw?

... I have no reason not to.

That's a no, huh? Eh, can't blame you. Hard to read the strong silent type. Y'know, the clan has trouble reading you, too. Maybe you should try being on the receiving end of this therapy thing sometime.

It's not therapy, it's Archivomancy. Whatever her intentions are, it isn't to just... sit around in a circle and talk about our feelings.

Archivomancy? Really? Did you come up with that yourself?

... I'm sorry, Carmine, I have the most splitting headache. We'll have to do the interview another day.
