“Even if I sacrifice myself, I will never sacrifice my honor.”

Unlike his brother, Genji is carefree and irresponsible most of the time. Without the pressure of being the heir of the Shimada clan, Genji was free to do whatever he pleased. Partying, hooking up, just about anything. Still, he does have a dangerous side to him. Of course he does, considering the criminal empire he was born into. Genji trained as a ninja for much of his life when he used to be part of the clan, mastering the ability to stealthily take out targets with his katana. Still, the boy just wants to have fun.

As the younger sibling, life was easy for Genji. He got all the privilege and luxury that came with being the son of the leader of the Shimada clan with none of the responsibility. Well, of course there was responsibility, but Genji chose to ignore it. Instead, he opted to spend his time pursuing a playboy lifestyle. Despite his rejection of responsibility and duty to the clan, Genji was never targeted. Not while his father protected him. Despite that, many in the clan developed a hatred for the younger brother that just grew and grew over the years.

When the clan leader died, everything changed. With no one left to protect him, Genji was vulnerable. To Genji’s disbelief, his brother Hanzo confronted him, commanding him to grow up and take responsibility for his role. He refused, which enraged Hanzo enough that the two engaged in battle. The skirmish left Genji terribly injured and close to death and the last thing he saw before he passed out was Hanzo turning his back on him.

When he awoke, he found himself dumped in the woods. Apparently, someone thought he really was dead and left his body where no one could find it. Although Genji was
hurt, he knew he had to find help. So, he pushed through the pain and walked through the forest, searching for civilization. Eventually, he stumbled across a small village.

The first door he knocked on just happened to house a friendly family. They took him in and cared for his wounds. Genji, although quiet and detached at first, eventually warmed up to the dragons that had taken him in. He found a close friend in the daughter Soba, the closest one to his age that offered him company. She was also the one who reminded him that his brother was still out there.

It wasn’t intentional. Soba had just been talking about her new mate, Somen, when Genji suddenly realized where he had heard the name. Somen, the guard. Somen, Hanzo’s childhood friend. By then, Genji was well enough to go out. It took a lot of work to trace down his stealthy brother, but eventually Genji found Hanzo.

Genji confronted him. They had a battle, Hanzo thinking that perhaps it was all a trick, because surely his brother was dead, right? Eventually, he managed to convince his brother that, no, he isn’t dead. Still, it wasn’t a happy family reunion, as they couldn’t stick together as they sometimes used to.

Their ideals were too different.
