Biography

VDS4Ncm.png
x2tSqUp.png Born with stars in her eyes, Arcana was always told that the Arcanist had laid out a path for her future. She always remembered that.

She was always curious. Too curious for her own good, leading to many difficult situations. However, it was always tolerated, as Arcana was simply a young hatchling with an insatiable curiosity for a new world. One way or another, she’d get herself or someone else injured. The comparisons to the Arcanist soon became old.

Curiosity broadens into a sense of exploration. Arcana had never strayed far from her parents before, but the sound of joyful music and overlapping laughter was enticing. She wandered through the forest, crashing through the underbrush as the noises became increasingly louder. The only source of illumination was the moon hidden behind heavy clouds and the glow of her own eyes.

She looked up from the grass, greeted by the warm glow of firey lanterns.

By the time Arcana’s parents realized that one hatchling was missing from their nest, she had already found herself on the outskirts of a traveling circus. It was fascinating to her young mind. The loud melodies, the vibrate colors, the commotion and howling and hollering people. The glow of soft blue flowers and occasional scuffles from her siblings she was familiar with seemed like nothing now.

Eventually, Arcana found herself peering in the largest tent in the circus. A person donning an ornate mask stood proudly in the center, all eyes on them.

It was mystifying, how he seemingly made doves appear from a hat or made a table disappear in the blink of an eye. The crowd seemed to enjoy it too, responding appropriately to every trick. They marveled at the bouquet of roses that suddenly appeared in the magician’s grip, gasped in surprise as he escaped from the locked box with no change in appearance.

But what truly made her enraptured was his final act. The magician smiled, emptiness poured out from his palms and slithered to the crowd. It was darker than shadows or the night sky. The audience tensed and stood from their seats. Uneasiness rose quickly, for it couldn’t be shade, but it choked the light out of the lanterns and killed the shadows that hid in the corners of the tent.

Then he spread his arms wide. A shockwave of blinding radiance swirled to the crowd’s eyes and cut through the shade-like manifestation. The audience was stunned, they cheered and clapped and shouted as their shadows danced with them and the light burned back to life.

The magician had certainly won over Arcana. Completely wide-eyed and dumbfounded.

At the end of the show, the magician glanced over and stared at her from where she hid behind the tent’s tarp. They tilted their head and smiled, something was strange with the look in his eyes. Arcana had always been one to believe in fate and the future. It felt bizarre, like something greater was pulling her in. Although she fled at that moment, she would quickly return later on. Her curiosity was too great to be ignored.

When Arcana approached the magician, he introduced himself as Entelechy. He invited her to join the traveling circus and leave behind her family, something she did without a second thought. In exchange, Entelechy would teach her the magic she had seen that very first day. He also taught her how to have loose, questionable morals like him.

Unlike him, Arcana still has a semblance of morality. Entelechy does and takes whatever he wants, whenever he wants. However, although twisted, Arcana follows her moral code. She always manages to find an acceptable reason behind her actions, although they would seem abhorrent to any normal dragon.
Although Arcana picked up some tricks on how to manipulate others to her will, she never realized that Entelechy was manipulating her too. She was too lost in his swirling eyes, convinced that it was fate the two met and Arcana left her home to join him. She is too stubborn to even think about leaving her mentor’s side, believing that fate is an unchangeable path and that whatever she does, she will find herself by his side again.

Of course, Entelechy knows this, and he takes it to his advantage. He had earned the trust of Arcana, enough that he was the only one she confided in. She told him things she promised that she wouldn’t from ‘friends’ she had made when traveling, to her worries and insecurities that showed the damage she didn’t even know was there. Entelechy twisted her thoughts, mumbling things to her behind her back to contort and mangle her to a mind like his. He had her wrapped around his finger, and eventually, she would follow his every order.

It was clear she had strong magic. The blessing of the Arcanist proved so, her powers more sporadic and eruptive than another’s. But even then it is nothing compared to Entelechy’s.

His purpose in manipulating Arcana?

To watch her burn with what she could do. Damage people around her while he watches, even when she only means good. It entertains him, how he would discover every little thing about her. Her secrets, her beliefs, and the future she believed in.

How far would he take her? When would she know? Or will she be oblivious to her erosion till the day she dies?

Arcana is enlivened for what her fate and mentor have in store for her. She does not treat it like a game.
