BIOGRAPHY
Astrape was born during a midnight storm; thunder crashed with the first crack in her egg, and when her eyes opened lightning struck, leaving the whole clan in fear that they had lost their hatchlings. Instead of succumbing to the bolt, however, Astrape was able to absorb it, and her eyes have contained the force of the Stormcatcher ever since. It was clear no hatch mother would ever be able to control her, and she surpassed the strength of her clanmates before she had matured, defeating enemies even as a hatchling. At first, the clan leaders feared a takeover - she was strong enough to crush any of them, and clever enough to start a revolution - but as she grew it became clear that she preferred to lend her strength and wisdom to others rather than take the helm herself. Astrape is a valuable ally for any dragon: if she is on your side your most ambitious projects will go ahead unchallenged; in contrast, if you incur her wrath, then you would be better never seeing her again. She is headstrong and opinionated, lending her weight to any debate whether her advice has been sought or not, and her power and wisdom means that she has a great influence on the beliefs of other clan members. Unshakably loyal to the Stormcatcher, whom she believes blessed her at her hatching, lightning sparks through her pearl, shocking all who touch it. She and many others believe that this is a sign that her soul itself is protected. Some believe that it has the ability to change the weather dependant on Astrape’s mood, but there have been no studies to verify this - yet. Astrape shares the Stormcatcher’s zeal for productivity, inspiring her comrades to work harder and faster and lending her power to new and innovative projects wherever she sees fit. |

Personality The belief of Divine Protection of course, can lead to arrogance, and whilst Astrape is open minded when it comes to listening to others in debate, she can often act without thinking, certain that her actions will always be the right ones. She has been known to leave the clan on a whim, traversing the Shifting Expanse on dangerous adventures before returning to share her spoils. These impulses have gained her many friends and enemies alike, and there are few places she can go in the Expanse without being recognised - for better or worse. Many of her clanmates fear to travel with her, worried that they will get caught up in some age-old drama that Astrape can barely remember. Others thrive on her unpredictability, befriending her to live vicariously in her shadow. Though for the most part Astrape is greatly admired in her clan, as she is known to offer her strength and power only for the good of all, there are still some who resent and fear her. The first of her clan to be born with these strange and dangerous eyes, her powers have continued to grow even after she reached full maturity, and no one, not even Astrape, knows when they will stop. Elders have questioned whether Astrape will always be able to maintain control of the lightning that courses through her, and although she is confident in her abilities, there is no way for her to be certain.
