The Gifted Chimes originated when the Windsinger received a gift from the Flamecaller: a stone that glittered in every color of the rainbow. The stone was so beautiful, the Windsinger thought it might be a shame for it to simply sit and look pretty, so he turned it into a dragon—many dragons, because just one could not express the amount of beauty in the original stone. While these dragons had pale colors throughout most of their bodies, their wings glittered like crystals in the sunlight.

Eirwen knew her history, her heritage. She would walk among the Gifted Chimes and see a glittering assortment of colors. Whenever a dragon stretched their wings they showed off a piece of a beautiful rainbow, a vibrant and rich representation of their place on the color wheel. Each of these dragons proved themselves worthy of the Chimes' legacy, each of them a living piece of that amazing stone.

A Chime's body is pale to contrast and better show off the color of their wings. But Eirwen's wings match her body, blending in: colorless. While the other Chimes stretched their wings, she hid hers away, ashamed. How can one represent the Gifted Stone if they have no colors at all? Every day she was surrounded with reminder after reminder of just how pale and lifeless her wings were - of just how far she fell from her purpose as a Chime.

Finally, she could stand it no longer. She left the Chimes and flew off in the dead of night, her crystalline wings softly tolling a final ringing goodbye. She could never go back.
